About this ebook

Following Christ though being discipled is a simple tool to help anyone with questions about what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. They will be able to understand more about the Bible, God, the church, and other important aspects about the Christian walk. There are three very important verse concerning discipleship. The Apostle Paul, in 1 Corinthians 11:1, tells us to follow him as he follows Christ. This is where I got my inspiration for my ministry Following Christ Ministry. Paul also tells Timothy, in 2 Timothy 2:2, that everything he has learned, he is to teach faithful men to teach others also. This is where discipleship starts. Training leaders in the church to take their lives and invest it into the life of a new believer or someone searching for truth. The most important verse is the command given by Jesus himself to the disciples in Matthew 28:19–20. We are all commanded to go throughout the world and make disciples. Now, more than ever, we need faithful men and women to stand up, share the gospel, and make disciples for our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ.

    What is discipleship?

Go into all the world and make disciples.

    —Matthew 28:19-20

    What Is Discipleship?

Before we dive into this, let’s look at what a disciple is. The biblical definition is simply a ______. Those of us who call ourselves ________ in Jesus Christ are disciples of Christ which means we are learners of Christ.

While Jesus was on the planet, he chose twelve men and called them to follow him. He took each one and individually invested his life in them according to their individual needs and personalities. He taught them who God was, how to pray right to his heavenly Father, how to love people, who they were individually, why he came to the earth, and a secret that was kept hidden till after his resurrection, the church (Eph. 3:3–5).

As Jesus was preparing to leave this planet, he said unto his disciples to go and teach all nations (Matt. 28:19–20). What they were to teach others was everything they experienced with him. They were to go to Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth (Acts 1:8).

How were they going to be able to reach the whole world with just twelve men? God had a simple plan, multiplication (Acts 6:7). Those twelve discipled twelve and then sent those twelve to disciple twelve as the original discipled twelve more and so on. This would calculate to thousands upon thousands in no time. The Apostle Paul said it like this in 2 Timothy 2:2, And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. Paul also said, Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ (1 Cor. 11:1). There are many people who have heard about Jesus, but they need someone to help explain it, just like the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8:31.

Today, discipleship should be someone who has a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and has been walking with God through studying the Bible and prayer for a while. They will take their life, the good and the bad, the word of God, and love and invest them in someone who is a new Christian or who has never been shown how to have a personal relationship with God or how to grow spiritually with him through his word (John 13:34–35).

Being a disciple of Christ is not as easy as it sounds. When Jesus called the twelve disciples to follow him, he told them to leave everything and follow him. In Luke 9:23, Jesus says, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. We must empty ourselves of the things of this world and die to the desires of our flesh every day so we can follow Jesus without anything getting in the way. Paul told Timothy that All that live godly in Christ Jesus, shall suffer persecution (2 Tim. 3:12).

We have all been called to be disciples of
