About this ebook

I felt impressed by God to write this book. Many do not know what is written in the Scriptures. I thought some would buy a book with this title out of curiosity and begin to search the Scripture and find real help from the Word of God.

    Foreword

If you have not met the author of this book, Harold McConnell, please allow me the privilege. He is in his fifth year as pastor of First Baptist Church, Keota, Oklahoma.

Brother McConnell, with his loving, faithful wife, Modena, have five grown children. He has pastored churches in Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma; is sought after for revival; and Bible Studies.

He is a very good student of the Bible, believing it to be the inspired, itinerant Word of God. Preaching it without comprise but out of a heart of love and compassion.

Brother Harold, as those who are his friends call him a faithful witness of his Saviour, and leads many people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He has started churches and built them to large strong ones.

I can faithfully say Brother McConnell is a loyal southern Baptist and supports his association and state convention in a fine and cooperative manner.

May God bless you as you read and study this book.

I am so happy to recommend Reverend Harold L. McConnell to any church or pastor desiring his dedicated services. Brother McConnell is a man filled with the Holy Spirit and with humility. He is as brave as a lion and as humble as a lamb in presenting the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. He takes an uncompromising stand against sin as well as an uncompromising stand that salvation is only through the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

He has conducted a number of successful revival meetings in number of states, and I am sure that any church or pastor fortunate enough to secure his services will know that they had in their midst a man of God.

So without reservation, I recommend this precious brother to you.

    Chapter 1

    Destruction

This earth is reserved to fire and destruction. At one time this statement was mocked and laughed at, but with the up-to-date revelation from the scientists, this statement is not so ludicrous as it once was with the world. The intellectual is not laughing.

The reason for the destruction to come is because of ungodliness and the worsening of the world.

But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. (2 Peter 3:7)

The cults have taught that the evil world system would be the only thing destroyed, but the Scriptures teach even the elements shall melt.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. (2 Peter 3:10)

The day of the Lord is a day of wrath and destruction of sinners. Here is another passage pertaining to the destruction of the earth:

And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. (Hebrews 1:10–12)

The world conditions are becoming worse. They will finally become so wicked that God will destroy everything by fire as he has promised prophetically, all because of the increase of ungodliness.

Many mock at sin. The Word of God calls them a fool and pronounces the judgment of God upon them. God is not mocked, and these shall bring upon themselves swift destruction.

One called me by phone and asked, Is it necessary to believe in Jesus Christ to be a Christian? The answer I gave him was a resounding yes! I shared with him the Scriptures.

He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. (1 John 5:12)

The Word of God reveals that most of mankind is traveling the wrong road. That road leads to destruction.

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: (Matthew 7:13)

There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Proverbs 14:12)

Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: (Romans 3:16, 17)

For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in the shame, who mind earthly things. (Philippians 3:18, 19)

And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; (2 Thessalonians 1:7–9)

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. (1 Timothy 6:9)

These preceding verses reveal mankind’s sinful plight. They depict him basically as a sinner—immoral and depraved in his nature.

Sin brings death and destruction. In a retrospective look, history declared carnage and devastation because of the sinful creatures’ rebellion and disobedience. In a look at death itself, the Scriptures give the
