About this ebook

Scriptures for Life was written to help anyone who does not read the Bible on a consistent basis. Face it, the Bible, even though it is the ultimate word of God and is the instruction book for our life on earth, can be difficult to read. Sometimes it is hard to find just that right scripture that will resonate. The book contains over 1,100 scriptures divided into 38 categories. Each category includes a narrative followed by the scriptures that apply to that category. Scriptures for Life is not intended to replace regular Bible study. Rather, it is designed to bring the scriptures out for easy reading. Any scripture that appeals to the reader should be followed up by referencing the Bible to discover the context of the verse.

Scriptures for Life - RG Allen

    The Bible

What is the Bible? It is the inspired word of God. It is the instruction manual for the people of the earth. In it are all the rules that govern mankind. It contains instructions as to how to live your life on earth. It was compiled over the years by men whom God appointed and equipped for the job. These included Moses, David, Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and others who wrote the books of the Old Testament. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John contributed to the New Testament, in addition to Paul and Peter. All the books of the Old Testament were believed to have been written by the year 435 BC. The New Testament was finished before the year AD 100.

In numerous scriptures, you are warned not to add to or take away from the Bible. God’s word is not made up of the opinions of the writers or of the readers. It is given through the writers, with the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit, to you, the reader. The principle of inerrancy holds that the Bible is without error. In other words, the original manuscripts contain no errors. Even though the original manuscripts are no longer available, the translations that are available are considered to be virtually without error.

Also included in the Bible is God’s plan for you and for your life, which explains where you came from, how to live life while you are here, and what lies ahead.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Tim. 3:16–17, NIV)

But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. (2 Pet. 1:20–21, NASB)

Blessed are those who hear the word of God, and observe it. (Luke 1:28, NASB)

These things that were written in the Scriptures so long ago are to teach us patience and to encourage us, so that we will look forward expectantly to the time when God will conquer sin and death. (Rom. 15:4, TLB)

This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. (1 Cor. 2:13, NIV)

So we have seen and proved that what the prophets said came true. You will do well to pay close attention to everything they have written, for, like lights shining into dark corners, their words help us to understand many things that otherwise would be dark and difficult. But when you consider the wonderful truth of the prophets words, then the light will dawn in your souls and Christ the Morning Star will shine in your hearts. (2 Pet. 1:19, TLB)

You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them; and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus. (2 Tim. 3:14–15, NASB)

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever. (Isa. 40:8, NIV)

Holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, that he may be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. (Titus 1:9, NASB)

Do not let this book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. (Josh. 1:8, NIV)

Cursed is the man who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out. (Deut. 27:26, NIV)

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Heb. 4:12, NASB)

It is written; Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. (Matt. 4:4, NIV)

The following verse comes from the book of Revelation. When it was written, it applied to that book. However, many people feel that this verse should apply to all of the Bible.

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. (Rev. 22:18–19, NIV)

    Beginning

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The entire universe, all the stars and planets, the planet earth, the people who were to live on the planet, and all the animals, fish and birds were created by Him.

But before that, there was another beginning. God has always existed. In fact, God in three persons has always existed. Jesus and the Holy Spirit were with God from the beginning, because they are part of God. This is very difficult for finite minds to comprehend. The concept of infinity before and after your life on earth is almost unfathomable.

Not only that, but the Bible tells you that you existed before your physical life on earth. Many scriptures attest to the fact that you were always with God. Your soul existed before God allowed you to be born into the world. At the right time, God allowed your physical body to be born. That physical body carries your spirit. When your physical body dies, it is your soul that will be saved, not your body. You will receive a new body when you get to heaven. The new body will be perfect, no defects, no illness, no pain.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. (Gen. 1:1, NASB)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. (John 1:1–2, NIV)

You were there while I was being formed in utter seclusion! (Ps. 139:15, TLB)

He chose to give us birth, through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all He created. (James 1:18, NIV)

For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (He is the God who formed the earth and made it, He established it and did not create it a waste place, but formed it to be inhabited), I am the Lord, and there is none else. (Isa. 45:18, NASB)

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world and all who live in it. (Ps. 24:1, NIV)

All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. (John 1:3, NASB)

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. (Ps. 19:1, NIV)

For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. (1 Pet. 1:20–21, NASB)

God chose from the very first to give you salvation, cleansing you by the work of the Holy Spirit and by your trusting in the Truth. (2 Thess. 2:13, TLB)

Thus says the Lord God to these bones, ‘Behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life. (Ezek. 37:5, NASB)

I and the Father are one. (John 10:30, NASB)

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. (Matt. 28:18, NIV)

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body, and knit them together in my mother’s womb. (Ps. 139:13, TLB)

From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us. (Acts 17:26–27, NIV)

For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. (Col. 1:16, NIV)

Because of what Christ has done we have become gifts to God that He delights in, for as part of God’s sovereign plan we were chosen from the beginning to be His, and all things happen just as He decided long ago. (Eph. 1:11, TLB)

Then God said, Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground. (Gen 1:26, NIV)

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made of what was visible. (Heb. 11:3, NIV)

The Lord Almighty has sworn, Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand. (Isa. 14:24, NIV)

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations. (Jer. 1:5, NIV)

You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your Book. (Ps. 139:16, TLB)

Lord, help me to realize how brief my time on earth will be. Help me to know that I am here for but a moment more. (Ps. 39:4, TLB)

For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is within them, but He rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. (Exod. 20:11, NIV)

The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it. (Ps. 89:11, NIV)

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14, NASB)

For we are here for but a moment, strangers in a land as our fathers were before us; our days on earth are like a shadow, gone so soon, without a trace. (1 Chron. 29:15, TLB)

For since the world began no one has seen or heard of such a God as ours, who works for those who wait for Him! (Isa. 64:4, TLB)

Seventy years are given us! And some may even live to eighty. But even the best of these years are often emptiness and pain; soon they disappear and we are gone. (Ps. 90:10, TLB)

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. (Ps. 139:14, NIV)
