    Dedication

To my wife, Sophia—the real hero, and my underlying

source of support, throughout this amazing journey.

Thank you for your unyielding patience.

To my two sons, Takehi and Arien—who have taken many

long drives with me to and from work, over the years.

Thank you for being my company, and my children.

To the Three Wise Men—and Mike Michaelson. Without your

encouragement, I may never have forged ahead into the unknown.

Finally, to those like me—the ambitious. The information-

seekers. The self-doubters. The brave…and the bold.

    Preface

"Reduced down to their essence, the MACHINES are composed

of pure information—a repository of knowledge. Which is

such a precarious thing, in the hands of the living. Too much

knowledge, and the weak are paralyzed by choice; too little,

and the foolish jump boldly into the gaping maw of a hungry

enemy. But just enough—a little fire from the gods—and it is

the great sword of victory, and worth everything to have.

Give me your eyes, children. For this, I

would have sacrificed all of you.

    It means that much."

    Introduction

I’ve never written a book before…at least not intentionally. As a teenager, I used to write poetry, fueled by the naïve curiosity that is the pubescent years. So, my reading, coupled with my love of creative writing, made me believe that I would undoubtedly publish something, someday. However, despite the 17 original pieces I created, and which I hoped to one day publish, I had no target audience, or specific release timeframe. Eventually, I lost that precious collection to circumstance, in my twenties.

This book is different. It stems from my experience; and moreover, a belief in my responsibility to change lives, through teaching. I also possess a deep passion to share truth. As a claims adjuster, I’ve spent hours at various insurance claimants’ homes, on the internet, or on the phone advising and guiding strangers on the claims process, and the means to perform the service duties that I do. I’ve given away so much of this information in the past. Eventually, I realized my potential to reach more people by publishing the stock of my acquired knowledge. Basically, by telling people what I’ve learned about this business over the years, I started to recognize the need, and demand, for information about this industry.

During this quest, I concluded that the difference between what people make, and what they want to earn is occasionally application; but more often, it is information. From there, my responsibility to share what I know became quite clear—to help others avoid the mistakes I
