It took me the last 2years of my 9-year, 5 year post release bid to save a hundred and fifty dollars and $40 of that was the money I received from the jail as release money (As if $40 dollars was gonna be enough to keep me out of the streets!). I came out of prison with no clothes, no phone, $150, a plan and a small room with a twin bed and a three draw dresser to sleep and keep my clothes.

The details of my plan changed over the time of me being out and I adjusted with the times as challenges arose. But one thing remained true, I would stay out of the streets, and I would be successful in a world where people who looked like me, thought like me, and came from where I came from, were told we didn’t belong and weren’t welcomed.
