To Sade, thanks for the support, encouragement, and the sweetness you add to my life. You are my best friend. Thanks for encouraging me to become an author.

To Tobi, for being such a wonderful son. Your drive for excellence is truly inspiring. It brings me a huge amount of joy to see what a fine young man you have become.

To Tami, my loving and affectionate daughter, who always looks out for her dad.

    Introduction

What happens when the way you thought things would turn out ends up not being the outcome you expected? What happens when the vehicle you expected God to use is no longer a viable one? What happens when you stepped out in confidence, but things did not work out the way you anticipated? You may have been hurt by disappointment, rejection, failure, and other kinds of adversity. The Bible says that Joseph dreamed another dream.

Despite all the adversity that happened in the life of Joseph that was moving him from bad to worse, he still persisted in pursuit of his dream. He seemed to take a few steps forward and several steps back. In the end, Joseph saw the fulfillment of his dream.

This book is designed to encourage you. If your dream has been lost because of your situation, your adversity, and your tough circumstances, it is time to pick your dream back up again. God is resurrecting dead things, including your abandoned dreams. He is giving life to your dreams and letting you know you are destined for greatness and that the time is now.

You can arise and shine, for your light has come. God has not given up on His purpose concerning you. God’s plan for you is unchanging, and He believes in you. What happened to you may have been unexpected, but you are not unprepared.

Rise up, take up your dream, and walk.

    Chapter One

    IN TIMES OF TRANSITION

In seasons of adversity, some people might become overwhelmed. Dealing with difficulties often causes people to lose sight of God and His purpose for their lives. However, God has a plan for your life despite whatever devastation may be taking place. God’s promises have not come to an end. Nothing can stand between you and God’s promise for your life.

As a prelude to this chapter, we will look at the death of Moses and God’s commission to Joshua.

    DEUTERONOMY 34:1-12

    ***

    JOSHUA 1:1-9

Joshua was in a time of transition when God announced to Joshua, Moses, My servant, is dead. When Joshua began his journey with Moses, the goal was for Moses to lead them into the Promised Land. However, for Joshua to take this role and responsibility was not the original plan.

Moses struck the rock when he shouldn’t have, and God told Moses that Moses would not enter the Promised Land because of what he did.

Joshua did not come into the process thinking he would be in this position, but he was in a time of transition. When you look at transition, what does that mean? It has to do with a passage from one state, stage, or place to another. It is a change—an evolution. Transition is a shift, a transformation, a transit, or a turning point.

For instance, when we look at what happened because of the impact of COVID-19, the word transition is not enough to describe what transpired. Many other things occurred simultaneously, such as upheavals in politics and the social justice protests. In times like these, we need to focus on God and His direction.

God had always been with Moses, but now Moses, the leader, was dead. The period of mourning for Moses was 30 days. We don’t know how long the Israelites remained there after that time. This whole series of events was not what Joshua expected.

The events you have encountered may have been unexpected. The person you thought would bring you into the Promised Land may no longer be there. The method you thought God would use this year may have shifted. But don’t be dismayed.

We see that what happened affected what was going on in the mind of Joshua when God said, Moses, My servant, is dead. Now, therefore, arise.

What happens when something that was supposed to bring you the result you hoped for is dead? How long are you going to hold onto that dead thing? No. I am still in mourning. I am not ready to move.

How long do we hold onto something dead when God says, It is time for a shift? You may not have received what you expected. The person you thought was going
