Connor Whiteley

Hello, I'm Connor Whiteley, I am an 18-year-old who loves to write creatively, and I wrote my Brownsea trilogy when I was 14 years old after I went to Brownsea Island on a scout camp. At the camp, I started to think about how all the broken tiles and pottery got there and somehow a trilogy got created. Moreover, I love writing fantasy and sci-fi novels because you’re only limited by your imagination. In addition, I'm was an Explorer Scout and I love camping, sailing and other outdoor activities as well as cooking.Furthermore, I do quite a bit of charity work as well. For example: in early 2018 I was a part of a youth panel which was involved in creating a report with research to try and get government funding for organised youth groups and through this panel. I was invited to Prince Charles’ 70th birthday party and how some of us got in the royal photograph. Finally, I am going to university and I hope to get my doctorate in clinical psychology in a few years.

Amelia Pinkie Mystery Collection - Connor Whiteley

    KNOCK AT THE DOOR

Private Investigator Amelia Pinkie loved walking along the River Thames in the heart of the River Thames. She just loved the amazing smell of the cargo ships, fishing boats and even fresh gusts of wind that all combined in an amazing combination. That thankfully gave her a few minutes rest from the polluting smell of central London.

As Amelia wondered along the long concrete path along its banks, Amelia listened to the great popping, banging and minor explosions that assaulted her ears. The river normally was a lot quieter but it was still far better than the business of London with all those people.

It was probably why her ghost friend Harvey spent all his time out here now he was dead. Amelia still had no idea where he died, who he was when he died or even some time period he came from, but he was a good little friend to have when it came to the tough cases.

But he had never called her before today. It was normally the other way round.

As much as it scared Amelia and made her utterly nervous, she couldn’t deny she was looking forward to it. Sometimes Harvey’s stories from his life and death... well, life sounded so amazing, exciting and utterly thrilling.

And after doing background checks for months with no so-called real cases, Amelia would love to get out of her office for more than her daily walk along the river.

She just doubted if Harvey was going to be that great. Whenever Amelia had asked him to bring her along on one of his Ghost Adventures (she had no idea what they even were), he had just laughed in her face.

    Amelia wasn’t too hopeful.

After a few more minutes of walking along the breath-taking River Thames, Amelia smiled as she heard one of her favourite noises in the entire world. The air was crackling, popping and humming and she closed her eyes.

When she opened them a light blue coloured man appeared. Harvey always did know how to create an entrance, but Amelia wasn’t a fan of his new outfit with his dark tennis shoes, red business suit and for some reason he had on a terribly ripped pair of trousers.

But the more Amelia looked at her ghost friend, the more she realised how tired he was. Harvey’s eyes were normally bright green that looked like emeralds with sunlight radiating out of them.

Today, they just looked like green balls. Something was definitely wrong.

Then Harvey flinched. Again and again and again.

Hey Har, Amelia said slowly, what’s wrong?

On normal days, Harvey would just talk to her, but Amelia knew this wasn’t going to be a normal day and she would finally get out of the office, yet it was strange how Harvey was now looking around as if he was going to be seen.

Amelia had tested it on more than one occasion, she was the only person who could see Harvey unless he showed himself to someone else. Amelia guessed it was some sort of ghost cloaking, but that wasn’t her area of expertise.

    But solving crime was.

Do ya hear that Am? Harvey asked.

Amelia rolled her eyes. The last time he sounded this crazy it hadn’t ended well. Amelia had had to crawl through a sewer to find a criminal, she really didn’t want to do that again.

    No, Amelia said.

Harvey puffed. Ya must hear it! Someone’s knocking! Again and again and again!

    Knocking on what?

That's why I call ya missy. I wanna employ your help, Harvey said, or more like begged.

Amelia smiled. Finally she was going to experience some of Harvey’s ghost stories. Amelia had to force down her excitement or she thought she might explode.

Then she took a couple of long deep breaths and reminded herself that she had to help out her friend. If he was hearing things then it could be serious and he was clearly in pain.

Amelia hated her friends in pain.

Course I’ll help, Amelia said, what sort of knocking is it?

    Why that important?

Because that might help us. Does it sound like someone is knocking on metal, wood or concrete?

    Harvey shrugged.

Amelia shook her head and started to walk along the Riverbanks again.

But how can you hear it? Amelia asked. You told me you can only hear things that are actually around you? Like I am now,

Harvey nodded. Well yeah. But I hear a knocking. A door that’s what it is!

Amelia was starting to become a bit curious then she realised she was going about this all wrong. She was focusing too much on the ghost-ness of it all, she was a Private Investigator first and foremost.

So she needed to treat Harvey as a person, not a ghost.

Tell me Har, when did you first hear this knocking?

Donno Missy. Maybe... breakfast. I heard it at breakfast time,

Amelia was about to say something but a massive cargo ship sounded their horn as they went down the river. Amelia just shook her head, it was so rude to interrupt.

It’s ten o’clock now. When did you have breakfast? Two, three, four hours ago?

Harvey’s face went very light blue. "Na. Seriously? It is really ten o’clock in your world. Oh my, oh my I must have overslept.
