Rafael is a young engineer who has two brothers: Caio and Jorge.

About the Medium

Eliana Machado Coelho was born in São Paulo, capital of Brazil, on October 9th. Since she was a child, Eliana had always a connection with the Spiritualism, and the constant presence of the spirit Schellida in her life. To this day, Shellida is known to be as a lovely, beautiful and delicate woman with a sweet smile. There was already indeed a solid partnership between Eliana and the beloved mentor for the works that both would carry out together.

As time went on, Eliana, supported by her loving parents, grandparents, and later by her husband and daughter, started to work, and always had Schellida by her side. After years of studying and training in Psychography, in July 1997 her first book came out: "Despertar para la Vida (Waking up to Life), a work that Schellida wrote in only twenty days. Among other books that came out later this one called  La Conquista de la Paz. " (The Conquest of Peace).

Aside from this, some natural peculiarities have arisen about this duo (medium and spirit) which makes an impression through the beauty of the romances received by them. One of them is regarding the origin of the name Schellida. Where did it come from? And what does Schellida mean? Eliana replies that this name, Schellida, comes from a shared experience between them, and for ethical reasons, she will leave the revelation to her own mentor. Schellida warned her she will write a book telling the main part of her terrestrial trajectory and her love connection with the medium. For that reason, Schellida once stated that if she had to write books using another medium, she would sign with a different name in order to preserve the worker's suitability without making them go through doubtful questions, embarrassing and dispensable situations, once the name of a spirit means little. What prevails is the moral content and the high doctrines passed on through reliable works.

Eliana and the Schellida spirit have several published books (among them The Right to Be Happy, No Rules for Loving, A Motive for Living, Awakening for Life and A Diary in Time). Other unpublished books will soon come into production, besides the old works to be re-edited. In this way, the spirit Schellida guarantees the task is extensive and there is a long road ahead for both of them, and will always continue together bringing lessons about love on the spiritual plane, the tangible consequences of The Action and Reaction Law and the necessity of harmonization, happiness and the conquests of every one of us, because all good always prevails when there is faith.

PREFACE

While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. ¹¹ When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?

On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’[a] For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." Matthew, 9: 10 to 13. New International Version.

The purpose of the Schellida Spirit could not be better explained than the one exposed in this passage of Jesus Christ’s, our great brother.

This dear spiritual sister is not tied to self-esteem or to the individualism of exposing a literary work solely in the vain intention or the pleasure of launching yet another book that many calls and qualify as ‘a beautiful novel.’ Her books have as a point of view to teach through the daily experiences, showing us that we not only have our current life, besides giving us basic and fundamental references of how to live better with the prognosis of a more hopeful future and full happiness.

Schellida teaches us that the current turbulence is not only reflection of our painful and bitter past, but the opportunity where our conscience cries out for understanding and help, where reason teaches us to moderate desires and to be content with resignation and patience, because of the worldly pleasures only will drag countless tons of heavy ballast.

It would be too pretentious for anyone to claim to own the absolute truth. Everyone could demand the authenticity of such a statement, which would be difficult for them to prove.

It is very easy for someone to furnish himself with the noblest and wisest sayings, supported by his magnanimous leather, and to show off, impressing hundreds and thousands.

However, we must pay attention to the concordance of the teachings, because, with all certainty, they will make it difficult to attend to and understand the different levels of the intellect of the multitudes who have innumerable questions about daily, actual and practical life.

Our dear Schellida, once again, comes to grace us with a blessed writing that is easy to understand by amidst a pleasant romance, without overshadowing us with the idea of the dubious interpretation and lifting us to a high understanding of high morals.

Even when it exposes the most usual classified list, it does not leave us the chance of one day claiming ignorance as we waver in correct behavior.

To have morals and teach we do not necessarily need to have power or fame, but, above all, it is necessary to specialize in understanding, sweetness, love and firmness, as well as examples of noble actions in acts, thoughts, words, emotions, caring and feelings, which reveal precisely who we are.

Living in inner harmony is not enough. It would be selfish not to think about our confrere.

Schellida wisely embraces us for the purpose of make us better. That's why she doesn't stop with personality manifestations and, without far-fetched language or meritorious intellectual expositions of wards, much less with the presentation of commonplace and banal stories, which can add little to the positive reasons for our achievement, teach us with high wisdom and morals.

Nevertheless, she will certainly get involved with immense courage, relying on Jesus Christ’s Teaching, with an indescribable freedom and responsibility which results in the practical exposition of the exercise of love to instruct us.

It is up to us to have faith. And, stripped of material ambitions, to look, with the eyes of seeing , at the living examples that could be any one of our own experiences.

In this novel, Schellida sits with us and speaks our language, because healthy people do not need a doctor.

PROLOGUE

It was a cold, dark night.

There was no light that could be glimpsed in the dim sky. The moon and the stars were covered by dense clouds.

The curtains of Raphael's room were moving softly by the cold breeze that was blowing continuously, while he was lying in his comfortable bed, left himself loose not bothering with the cold that invaded the compound.

Even though those few door knocks were light, he ended scared, perhaps because he was already somewhere in between sleep and vigil.

Rafael, said Maria, one of the maids, a call.

Rafael took a deep breath, and jumping out from the bed he said:

Come in. The phone in my room didn't ring... Where? Where is it?

I brought the wireless phone. The one in this room was malfunctioning and your mother asked Joaquim to get it out from here and send it to repair. By tomorrow, another will be in its place.

Who is this Joaquin? Rafael asked.

The new driver, answered Maria.

And by picking up the phone from her hands, Rafael politely thanked her.

Maria left and he locked the door to get more privacy.

Hello! he answered.

Rafael? It’s... This is Cláudia!

Hey! Everything is all right?

All of it. And you? The animated lady answered.

Same here. Easy and enjoying a Friday at home.

It’s a joke? You’ll be moldy in there?!

I’m trying to get some rest, explained Rafael disinterested.

No way! Today the gang is meeting at Lola's apartment and you have to come to this one.

I'm not in the mood, Cláudia. I'll see you next time.

Not really! You always say that, and this next time doesn't come.

I make a point of having you for company, otherwise I'll be stuck for the rest of the night in this phone talking to you. Besides, it's been a while since you've joined us and...

The conversation dragged on for some time and, at her so much persistence, Rafael accepted the invitation and began getting ready to leave.

When his father asked him where he was leaving, Rafael informed him that he was going to the apartment of a college classmate where the whole class would be gathered to shoot the breeze.

Rafael was a young and handsome boy. He was studying engineering at one of the best colleges in Sao Paulo. He didn't work, but he let study take up all his time. Since he was an applied student, he hardly got along with his classmates in college.

He'd like to be alone.

His parents provided him with everything for his well-being, not least because the couple enjoyed excellent financial conditions.

They lived in a high-class gated condo complex and owned a large and luxurious residence.

On his way to meet with the class, Rafael felt bad. Something was bothering him.

Although he believed it was nothing physical, he couldn't explain what was going on.

Driving his car over and over, he looked at the passenger seat wanting to confirm if he was alone, because he always had the impression, he had someone there with him.

Rafael couldn't see it, but there really was company.

A protective spirit, better known as a guardian angel or a spiritual mentor, was, in that instant, accompanying him and giving him instructions:

Dear Raphael, you could value your intuition or the inspirations that come to you, said the Lukas spirit, Raphael’s mentor. Those friends don't suit you. They are brothers who still take pleasure in false values and false joys. They live far from the true reality and you still doesn't have the spiritual preparation to deal with them without getting involved, directly or indirectly, physically or spiritually.

Think about it. Finding good company these days depends solely on you.

The similar are attracted.

Just like Lukas, other spirits with understanding and spiritual elevation, such as mentors, they know that no one should interfere in the fate or the free will of anyone, not even if they are their pupils.

However, they can pass on healthy inspirations, without interfering with their free decision which, according to the harmony in good thoughts and attitudes of good intentions, cultivated by the incarnate, he can harmonize with the greater spirituality and be guided by the wisest decisions, the best paths and the most sublime peace under any circumstances.

Only spirits without understanding, moral value or little spiritual elevation, that is, wandering and frivolous spirits interfere with the destiny or free will of the incarnate, seeking to intervene in their decisions and they even give consult, giving their opinion on the particularities of other people's lives.

Each one of us, God-created spirits, must seek the spiritual elevation that will lead us to perfection.

We need to go through trials and atonements by correcting exactly everything we have disharmonized one day, to others or to ourselves.

No one will ever solve our challenges for us. To do so would be an injustice from God. And if we pass on the task to someone else, we are not free from the problem, we only postpone it, maybe even for an even harder time. There is no shortcut to the peacefulness of our minds. We can have a temporary peace when others take care of our tasks. Time corrects fake conquests, bringing back the evidence we must overcome.

Have no doubt.

As we seek to arise with work for good, good morals, justice, humility, charity and love, we are automatically supported by Divine Nature and by messengers indicated by God for this sublime support. The heavenly Father sends us protective spirits according to what we deserve and not according to the that we believe we're entitled to.

For this reason, let us not be proud, vain and even overbearing, when in a prayer we ask a certain spirit to help us. Do we deserve it? Do we not subdue another orderly of the good that has already been sent to us, of the same or even greater elevation as the one we ask for help?

While doing it, we simply devalue countless faithful brothers and sisters to the work of good, who live in anonymity and, above all, we are not believing in omniscient, omnipotent and ubiquitous providence from the Heavenly Father.

We must weave prayers to the Heavenly Father with unspeakable faith and acceptance of His sacred justice.

In this way, we will receive generous drops of comfort and harmony, attracting to us, compatible friends with our thoughts, feelings and vibrations.

Therefore, the spirits and little brothers, who are not in tune with these harmonious blessings, distance themselves from us, and even with all the difficulty we may face, we will feel safe and secure, for we know that difficulties are solved and endured with love, resignation, humility and perseverance for the good, which praises us and Lucas, as every mentor, guided his protégé.

The mission of such a protective spirit is to lead his pupil or protect him on the right path, assist him in times of crisis with advice, solace and valuable moral support in the trials of life.

But the spirit guardian is not a nursemaid. It can take on other parallel missions in order to protect its pupil, according to their degree of spiritual elevation. However, he is always replaced in case of necessary absence and, even at a distance, follows him closely.

To truly high spirits, there is no space or distance as an obstacle, preserving, alive and loving, the bond with your protégé.

We must remember that a mentor or guardian spirit moves away when his pupil submits to a low moral influence, but never goes away, just watches him from a certain distance and immediately proposes to go around, as soon as he perceives the desire for good and love to awaken in his protégé, involving him again with wise counsel.

This advice is offered by the good thoughts you suggest, through inspiration, because neither all are audible mediums. Therefore, by remaining in harmony and in prayer, we are able to feel such Protective Spirit sensations and with good sense on our part, particularly if we gain instruction, we' all analyze the advice and follow it if it is proper.

Love you guys and instruct you.

Such attachment between the Protecting Spirits and their pupils is exceptionally well explained to us in The Book of spirits, questions 489 to 521.

For this reason, the spirit Luke induced his protégé not to go to the meeting, whereas, in that instant, Rafael shook his head quickly from side to side and spoke aloud:

I'm going crazy. I seem to have started hearing voices. After he laughed alone, he completed:

You'll see that I'm out of date. My grandmother started like this. And laughing again, he spoke:

Besides hearing voices, I'm even talking to myself...

Not alone, dear friend! joked Lucas. You're talking to me and you're not crazy.

Yes, you’re more sensitive.

It would be immensely important for you to pay attention to that sensitivity, like today, for example.

You could stay at home or just take a walk to distract yourself, meet someone.

There are times when you need to create interest in meeting other people. We can change our path in life if we are dedicated to the good and goodwill. That, in every way, especially in regards to good-natured, moral companies and healthy actions.

Colleagues and low moral acquaintances can always be found at dozens and, if not we watch carefully, we will give in to the same pernicious vices that they feed and we will walk, in long strides, towards the spiritual and moral decadence, from where we hardly we will rise. As for our noble companions, we must go out in search. We always come to them when we rise our morality, our thoughts, when we enhance our attitudes, our language and we seek to attend places where moral standards consign us to harmony, peace, humility, charity and fraternal love. You could enlighten yourself in spirituality.

In this way, we will walk in a long stride towards perfection, towards true happiness, which is not from this world.

There are those who only remember God and seek for a house of prayer in difficult times and in search for miracles. Generally, only within conflicting circumstances they go out for help for their physical and spiritual bodies.

The curious thing is, until then, what seemed difficult and impossible becomes convenient, because even in the face of the intruders they find the precious time, in their daily lives, to propose themselves to receive and even demand the kind of help they suppose merited. With no humility, they choose who from spirituality should do it, by revolting, with lamentations or discouragement, when their desires and even whims are not satisfied.

This is lack of faith and love for God.

Not to mention those who seek for help, they are assisted, receive support and then forget.

They always think they deserve it. They don't even come back to know if maybe they can be useful and serve, like

Jesus' tasks, in helping other fellows who arrive in need as he did there.

Nor do they return to thank God for the available help, trying to understand why this happened.

A similar passage already occurred in Jesus' time, when ten men with leprosy found Jesus who passed through Samaria and Galilee, they went to meet him and said:

Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.

And when Jesus saw them, he said:

Go and show yourselves to the priests.

On the way, everyone was clean and healthy. One of them, when he was healed, came back. He threw himself at the feet of Jesus and gave him thanks. That was a Samaritan.

Jesus answered:

Haven't all the ten been healed? Where are the other nine?

None of them came back to give thanks and glorify God except this stranger. Get up, go; your faith saved you."

Lucas, chapter 17, vv. 11-19.

Jesus healed the ten, but said that only he who returned to thank God was saved.

Dear brothers and sisters, we must be aware of Jesus' words: " Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." Matthew, chapter 7, vv. 21 to 23.

"It is by his works that the Christian is recognized." says The Gospel According to Spiritism, chapter XVIII, Shall be Christians who honor him with external acts of devotion and, at the same time, sustain pride, selfishness, greed and all your passions? Are his disciples the ones who spend their days in prayer and show neither better nor more charitable nor more indulgent towards their alike? No!

Just wanting, asking and receiving is not enough. We must remember that we are spirits created for eternity and, with all certainty, we will attract to ourselves all that we cultivate in our minds, in our prayers with requests for help and thanks.

We will receive everything we give to others with our words, gestures and actions, even the most secretive thoughts that we cultivate and judge about any of our brothers, will favor us or serve as ballast.

As spirits created for eternity, our own conscience will hold us responsible for ingratitude that we pour out, for the charity not practiced, for the unfair lamentations, for the blessings granted and not valued.

So, let us be careful what comes out from our mouth and even what we create in our thoughts.

We've got what we have lived.

Knowing this, the spirit of Luke always sought to bring to Rafael edifying inspirations and even with good healthy humor, as the boy's generous personality kept him bound to sublime surroundings, even without the knowledge of spiritual life. However, when Rafael deviates from good morals and healthy attitudes, he was responsible for his actions and suffered the consequences of what he practiced.

There are no privileges in God's justice.

At that moment, Rafael turned on the radio and started singing with the music he heard.

Raphael, inspired the spirit of Luke, you don't like confusions. You don't need trouble, so try to keep an eye on yourself.

Suddenly Rafael felt cold, chills ran over his body.

My grandmother would say that death passed close grumbled Rafael smiling, before he felt shivers because of a bad feeling he had."

I wouldn't say death, my dear friend, continued Lucas "I'd say he captured an impression due to your keen sensitivity, which you still don't know and can't identify.

Often our instincts do not tell us clearly what we will experience, yet we receive partial impressions of what might happen. We do not accurately predict future events.

Neither do we, disincarnate spirits, have the conditions to predict what will happen, since people and other disincarnate spirits are bearers of free will, that is, the right to act as you wish. This prevents all of us from accurately predicting the future. However, one thing is If you want a wonderful future, work for the common good today. Don't be selfish.

Live the Gospel teachings and always seek charity together with the practice of good morals.

After some time, he still concluded:

If you are practicing good, live with a good moral and a sudden spiritual malaise occurs to you, be cautious, that malaise can be a warning yes.

Sometimes when we are doing good and a suspicious or discouraging feeling invades us, it is because a lower evolved spirit is approaching to divert us from what is good.

We must be warned about this with a prayer. In addition, we need to stay alert and say a no to certain invitations you might propose to us, even though you think we are been radicalized in front of our false friends.

Because, many times, in order to follow the fashion, we get in sadness and pain.

Rafael could not hear him, but he recorded those impressions as if they were his thoughts.

However, he didn’t pay attention to the strong impulses and decided to attend the meeting. The opinion of others still was important to him.

1. FALSE FRIENDS

Parking his car in front of a luxurious building, Rafael hesitated to go up. Inside the vehicle, he kept looking up.

He blew hot air from his mouth to his cold hands, rubbing them right away.

Since I'm here, he talked to himself, I'm going up to see the guys. If it's not good, I'm leaving.

In the apartment...

Check it out, people! Whoever's alive always shows up. said Cláudia, the hostess of the meeting, when she realized it was Rafael, she ran to give him a hug.

Hey, handsome! How are you? said Cláudia, after kissing Rafael on the cheek and pulling him close.

Rafael gave a general greeting and retreated to a corner to observe. He felt a bit uncomfortable and even out of place. He hadn't met his colleagues in private meetings for a while.

The sound of the music was loud, while everyone was swaying excitedly in the noisy, like all the young people who get along.

Without delay, a glass of liquor ended up in Rafael’s hands who with discouragement, was trying to get along, but for some reason all that didn’t please him.

Lucas, his mentor, approached him and inspired him:

Drinking causes innumerable physical and spiritual harm.

All those who ingest alcoholic beverages become unbalanced, because they begin to vibrate in incredibly inferior conditions and end up surrendering themselves to worldly derangements.

Here, for example, there are countless disincarnate, ignorant and suffering spirits, who are ready to get drunk with you. If you ingest alcoholic beverages, these spirits suck out your fluids, vampirize you. When they do this, they are able to taste the drink you have ingested.

Dissatisfied, they will want to experience the effect of alcohol more. They will encourage you to drink compulsively.

Rafael couldn’t hear him, but somehow, he registered Lucas' intentions.

The boy spun the whiskey glass with his hand, observing the container’s design.

By instinct, he rested the glass on the table taking a deep breath and started to look at the excitement of his friends and even the strangers who were having fun.

Cláudia, watching him, complained soon:

Why are you so dispirited? Cheer up, Rafael! Don't let the cold take over!

You are wrong, Cláudia. I love the cold.

Then cheer up, go! Here, drink this and you'll warm up.

And taking the glass with liquor, she offered it again to Rafael who accepted and started to sip it. At that meeting, the number of disincarnate people there were approximately five times greater than the number of incarnate people there.

These disincarnate spirits, in large numbers, were uneducated and suffering spirits who disincarnated, mostly when they were still young and without any preparation for spiritual life.

Therefore, they didn’t believe, seek or accept guidance and help from spirits with more evolution. Spirits who take pleasure in this type of gatherings usually seek out young people who have a restless and modern life. They easily harmonize with those who like bars, drinking, smoking, gluttony, promiscuous or unruly sex, drugs, games, among other irresponsible practices, because at being close to these incarnates, they can feel the same sensation of inebriation, adventure and false pleasure.

An uneducated spirit, who is satisfied with these pernicious vices, by getting very close to an incarnate who cultivates the minimum of one of these habits, passes on his desires and thoughts.

Both incarnate and disincarnate do not need to have known each other in any reincarnation experience.

The incarnate, when ingesting any amount of alcoholic beverage, for example, is immensely vulnerable to the desires of the spirit that accompanies him and delights in the drunkenness.

When the incarnate does not control himself in his addiction, it is an indication that the ignorant spirit that accompanies him is beginning to command his wills and, each day, this disincarnate will attune himself to the incarnate to the point of feeling exactly all the effects provoked by alcohol in the human body.

And so are all the other vices and excesses practiced by incarnates, such as smoking, gluttony, sex, drugs, games, aggressiveness, devaluation of other people's lives, disrespect, low moral vocabulary, contempt, irresponsibility, among others.

Where there is an alcoholic drink, a cigarette, a lot of drugs, etc., there will always be disembodied people waiting for those who will use them to suck the effects, encourage them to depend more on the addiction and lead them to the decadence of life, humiliation, ridicule, discrimination and, of course, human and spiritual failure, which themselves experience and knows how difficult it is to overcome.

Being aware of all this, Lucas very much regretted the attitude of his protégé, who started to sip the aperitif.

At that same moment, three disincarnate, with a young appearance, came to Raphael and started sucking his fluids and encouraging him to drink more.

Raphael began to cheer up and what was dull at first, became interesting. While Lucas lamented:

It was your choice to attract another level of spiritual companion, my friend.

From now on you will be at the mercy of whatever you provoke.

Other disincarnate companions inspire you, because you have no opinion of your own and you let yourself be carried away by your inconsequential friends who live from appearances in false joys.

Raphael could not hear him, let alone the disincarnate ones who came to accompany him, because they were much lower level spirits than Lucas.

The party began to get even more lively.

Some danced, some flirted, some drank, and there were those who dropped themselves on the couches.

Despite being under the influence of alcohol, Rafael was not drunk and observed when four boys, three of them his acquaintances, stood up stealthily and headed to another room that served as an office.

Distrusting, Rafael looked for Lola, the hostess, and asked about her parents.

They are in Bertioga, Lola replied. Do you think my mother would allow this mess here?! And, laughing, she left dancing.

Two of the first ones who entered the office came back, while the other two stayed there.
