PREFACE
This book is a wonderful creative work that reminisces on our rustic travails in the course of seeking western education. Besides, the author strives to blend Okpameri culture and history, which to some extent reflects on the narrative at the initial development of the narrative.
The story is focussed on the development and education of a Nigerian child, considering the suffocating environment, highlighting the evil impacts of some hostile teachers who in their ignorant assumption consider some pupils as can-never-do-well in life, as we see in the case of Utaina.
However, Utaina in this story is an emblem of hope and encouragement to any child who thinks he or she can never amount to anything in life because of the present situation; a child who has given up or who considers giving up. In addition, as we see at the end of the story, Utaina demonstrates a rare human character of forgiveness.
This wonderful attribute is what is needed not only in our daily human relationship, but, even though it is sometimes difficult to do, is also what is needed to give human beings a hope of everlasting peaceful relationship. It is the source of everlasting peace of mind and joy of living. This indeed is the highlight of a story that is entertaining and full of intrigue and suspense in human relationship.

WELCOME TO A NEW WORLD
Omonema Ekugbe had just finished her household chores when she started feeling pains around her lower abdomen. She knew it was time for her to deliver the baby she had been carrying in her womb for the past nine months. Meanwhile, she had been advised by the village maternity nurse where she had been registered that she should not engage herself in strenuous work and she should trek regularly as a form of exercise. This, the nurse counselled, would be of great help to her during delivery.
Then the time came and she went into labour. The pain was prolonged. Before this time however, she had sent a message to her mother-in-law for urgent assistance because she was alone at home. Her husband Mezafi Ekugbe had left very early to the neighbouring village of Lampese for his normal carpentry work. The mother-in-law rushed in and tried to rush her to the hospital. By then, the baby had started coming. She couldn't be rushed to the hospital again. It was late. Omonema Ekugbe's mother-in-law at this time felt the need to hold her firmly when the time came. She encouraged her to push even though she was finding it difficult. At last, the expected baby came with a cry. It was a bouncing baby boy with jelly-coiling hair. Her mother-in-law praised God for a safe birth, Oshokhoze mogbo ooo!
She commented, meaning God I thank you!
Omonema Ekugbe experienced terrible pains indeed but it could have been worse if not that she had been taking the nurse's advice and this had helped her greatly.
Without wasting any time, the baby was taken care off. It
