About this ebook

Are you going through a storm in your life, in your finances, health, marriage or career? Do you sometimes feel like God has abandoned you or that you just can’t seem to figure out what He is doing? In The Journey Towards Destiny Masana Hlachwayo takes us on a riveting journey of her battle with type 1 diabetes, kidney failure, temporary blindness, the fulfilment of a decade long promise and how God taught her how to trust Him whilst in the storm.

Masana Hlachwayo uses her life story to illustrate how God continues to speak to His children as well as guide their steps to His chosen

destiny if they will allow Him. This book will teach you:

=The importance of dreams and the realness of the spiritual world
=That it is possible to walk with God in the midst of your storm
=That God still fights and wins battles today, and
=That God is still a covenant, promise-keeping God

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee: and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned: neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. (Isaiah 43:1)

    Dedication

To my queen and mother, Mhan Glory. I would not be here without your prayers and support. I love and appreciate you dearly.

    Ready, Steady, Go….!

Over the years I have received many requests to write a book about my life. However, I have never felt the need or urge to do so, until recently when I felt the Lord tug at my heart. Looking back, I can clearly see why. His timing is always perfect. I have been candid and transparent about the experiences I have gone through on my way towards my destiny in the hope that someone will learn from my story. I hope you will laugh and cry with me as we take our journey towards destiny. But most of all I wish for you to see and meet my King, the Lord Jesus Christ.

    Enter Masana Nokuthula

Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is them whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

    Psalm 127:3-5

It was a hot summer morning on October 21, 1991, as Glory Hlachwayo dragged her heavily pregnant body out of bed and prepared to go to the hospital. She knew something was wrong but did not know what.

As she walked into Khensani Hospital, the smell of cleaning detergent lingered with the hospital stench most people have grown to hate. She located the nearest nurse and explained her predicament. She somehow knew her baby was in trouble, but didn’t know how. Every fibre in her 22-year-old body sent out alarm bells.

The nurses quickly dismissed her concerns, brushing her off as just another young girl probably nervous about childbirth and the unknown. They directed her to the maternity ward where someone would attend to her, but as she entered the ward her young mind could have never prepared itself for the violent screams that greeted her.

Fear immediately gripped her heart and she turned around ready to run for the door. But thoughts of her baby dying made her stop and decide to look for help. It could only have been God. I shudder at the thought of what would have happened if she had gone home that day.

Upon examination it was discovered that the umbilical cord was tightly wrapped around her tiny baby’s neck, confirming her fears. I thank the Lord for Nurse Mafenyani who rushed my mother to theatre that day, ultimately saving my life.

That day baby Masana Nokuthula Hlachwayo was born.

I am the first-born daughter to Tinyiko Emmanuel Hlachwayo and Glory Hlamalani Hlachwayo. My aunt was the one who gave me the name Masana, which means sunrise or morning ray in my Tsonga language. The name essentially signifies light. It was only years later that the meaning and significance of this name dawned on me. I am the light of my family and hence I had to fight for the crown that was put on my head, but more about that later. My second name means peace and I believe the Lord has called me to be a peacemaker. I trust He will lead me into all He wants me to be, and I will begin to see the fulfilment of this prophetic name. Parents, there is power in the names we give our children.

I am not sure if my parents knew in those early days that they had a promising child on their hands, but the events of my life sure did give us a rude awakening to the costs and advantages of destiny.

    My Childhood and Primary Education

Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.

    Matthew 19:14

The early years of my childhood were bliss. Like any other young child my age I enjoyed playing, and literally had no care in the world. There is one particular memory that keeps flashing in my mind of those early childhood days – I recall being in my parents’ bedroom as my mom was making the bed. My parents lovingly placed me in the middle of the duvet and started swinging me around playfully, while I screamed loudly with elation. I don’t know why this memory is etched in my mind, but it is a memory I will treasure until I go home to meet the Lord.

I started my primary school education at Laerskool Kremetart in Giyani, Limpopo. My parents still live in Giyani, and when I visit them, I often feel nostalgic as I drive past my school. A trip down memory lane.

After two years at this primary school my mother moved me to Laerskool Louis Trichardt in a different town – a school that was renowned for its excellent education and sporting programmes. This however meant that I had to start staying in boarding school and only go home at weekends. I was very nervous to say the least. My mother, on seeing the panic written all over my face, reassured me I would be fine and would learn a lot. She was right.

After a couple of weeks my anxiety and fear of new experiences
