Save on groceries & use those coupons

One of the best things I’ve ever done is switch over to a discount grocery store. Depending on where you are, this store could be an Aldi’s, Grocery Outlet or BB’s but one thing is for sure... the amount you’ll save is worth making the switch! Most discount stores have their own set of coupons (or maybe don’t offer them at all) but always check their flyers, ask if there are any discounts available and try to plan your shopping around the cheapest items they have available that week. You’ll be surprised how much you can get with just $50 at a store like this!

If you don’t have the option to go to a discount store because you live in an area that doesn’t really have a store like that available, you need to start couponing TODAY. Most local newspapers have inserts with coupons and if you plan your shopping correctly, you can save a bunch of money with coupon stacking. Have you ever heard of Fetch or Ibotta? These apps will allow you to scan your grocery receipts and earn money/points for gift cards or cash out into a PayPal account; Fetch actually lets you scan any receipt so gas receipts, fast food and convenience store receipts count too!

Unplug everything you don’t use on a daily basis

You might already be thinking well this isn’t going to work because I use 99% of the things that are plugged into my walls every single day. And I believe you! But, do you use them all day long? When you’re at work? School? The answers probably no I’m going to assume, right? All your family's chargers, your bedside lamps, your toaster oven or microwave, your laptop computer, your electric toothbrush, your child's iPad... these can all be unplugged when you’re not home!

Again, you will be pleasantly surprised how much you can save doing this. When I was a single woman living alone in a one bedroom apartment, I had my electricity bill down to $30-$35 a month because I did this every single day. The only things that stayed plugged in were my television and my refrigerator! Now I know most of you reading this are in 2-4 bedroom houses with 1000+ sq feet around you so $30-$35 a month is unrealistic but if you’re currently dealing with an electric bill that’s $250 or more.. I can almost guarantee you could drop that bill by $50-$100 next month by getting the entire family on board to create these energy saving habits!
