INTRODUCTION
We have all seen the TV shows where the crazy coupon lady gets 10 shopping carts full of groceries, including 37 bottles of flavored water, 25 bottles of ketchup, 44 toothbrushes, 20 jugs of juice, and so on, for pennies on the dollar. Her pre-coupon bill is always hundreds of dollars, far more than a normal grocery bill, due to purchasing multiples of everything. She always seems to be in a panic, because she, of course, doesn’t have hundreds of dollars. She, of course, is relying on her coupons to make up for all the cash she doesn’t have. After a moment of sweat and fear for the camera she hands over a large, beautiful stack of coupons. The cashier begins scanning them quickly and the fun begins. The register starts to go crazy, ringing and rattling as the total drops $ .50, $1.00, or $2.00 at time. It sounds like a Vegas slot machine, ding, ding, ding, and the crazy coupon lady is hitting the jackpot. Ding, ding, ding.
When it stops, the dedicated couponer ends up paying something like $42.36 for her hundreds of dollars in groceries. She breathes a sigh of relief, ecstatic that she came in under her pre-stated budget of $50.00. It’s insane, right? At least you think it is impossible, right? Well, there is no question that TV shows add drama and excitement, like registers breaking or coupons missing, to illustrate extreme situations and add entertainment value. That is what shows are for after all; to entertain us. But I am here to tell you that you CAN save hundreds of dollars following the techniques I have researched and perfected. You CAN make the bells and whistles on a cash register go crazy adding your savings up and dropping your bill down. You CAN be an extreme couponer. It is not a reality only on TV.
We all like money. Actually that isn’t true. We all like what money can get us. It’s the things we can buy with money, like cars, houses, clothes, electronics, and vacations. For others it is the security money can provide, like a savings account or just the ability to pay your bills without any worry or concern. A few years ago most people would have said it is easier to make money than to keep it. Since 2008, however, that has all changed. With job losses, or and the fear of more job losses all around us, most households have cut back and worked harder to make their money go further. Plus, the prices of basic needs are going up everyday. There is no question that we have seen an extreme tightening of household budgets.
In their Annual Topline U.S. Consumer Packaged Good (CPG) Coupon Facts Report for year-end 2011, NCH Marketing Services announced that consumers saved $4.6 billion in 2011 by using coupons. This is up $500 million from 2010. People are looking for ways to stretch the almighty dollar. People are trying to loosen that budget belt to make the tough economic period we are experiencing less tough. And now, people have found out that using coupons works to do just that. They can save you a ton of money if you use them correctly. And I can show you how.
I have always been a coupon person, because I have always liked to save my money. But when the recession hit and the extreme coupon craze began I was still fascinated. So many people started devoting hours and hours to collecting, cutting, and
