Couponing doesn't have to be a part-time job, but it can pay off like one! A Working Mom's Guide to Couponing will teach you just how to save money, coupon by cutting corners and provide you the right tools to become an avid coupon shopper.
Welcome! I’m one of those coupon moms who work 40 hours per week. When I get home, I’m also a full-time mom to my three year old son and I'm a step-mom to two teenage girls. If I have time to coupon, then so do you! It has literally changed my life!
My Story
I started couponing in February 2011. Couponing couldn’t have come at a better time in my life. In January, my husband lost all of his overtime and pay-period deductions had increased greatly by law. Add to that an increase in healthcare spending due to a couple of diagnosed chronic illnesses and we lost over $15,000 of income within a few months. We needed to drastically cut back on our spending. At that time, our grocery bill was around $800.00 per month. We had to make some major changes and fast. We decided to stop our cable, cut data plans on our cell phones and called our credit cards in order to have lower payments per month. But cutting our bills wasn't enough. The only expense I could control was our grocery bill. In order to reduce our grocery budget that meant I had to buy less at the store. This was hard to do for a family of five, two dogs and one cat.
Shopping at discount stores was a must. Purchasing only generic brands and cutting out luxury food items. Anything over $2.00 was just not in the budget. I had to get creative with lunches and dinners. Fresh fruit and vegetables were only in our home if they were very inexpensive. Even with cutting as much as I did, it still wasn't enough. I was spending on average $150 to $180 per week on food and household products. I was sick of spending so much money and getting so little.
Ironically, on the same night I was frustrated with my grocery bill, my husband and I started watching a show called Extreme Couponing. I was
