- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This one is a must have for any young child, especially the way mental health is playing such a high role in the younger generation. On top of which, the characters are absolutely delightful, and the activities are really fun too.The author explains mindfulness, staying in the present, and focusing on yourself, your feelings, and sensations, in small easy steps that a child can understand, and will want to learn more about. As well as the importance of being kind and caring towards yourself and others. My favourite section was filling in the sun rays and dancing like nobody is watching ;-)I also found this to be a great conversation starter for parents and carers if they wanted it to be.I would definitely recommend this for a fun, feel good factor book for a child that also benefits their thoughts and perspectives.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Practicing Mindfulness starts with defining what mindfulness is: paying attention to what is going on right now. There are many ways to practice mindfulness. Focusing on your breathing, listening to the sounds around you, and feeling and understanding your body’s sensations are all explained here in a way children can understand. Best of all, it teaches about using mindfulness to be a kind and caring person. This fun book teaches about mindfulness not only by explaining, but by having the child interact. After each chapter, there’s space for a picture or to answer a question. There are pictures throughout the book that can be colored. At the end, there are games such as wordsearch or a maze. The games focus on the contents of the book. The characters are great too! The main characters are Emma Lou the Yorkie Poo, Pearl, and Gigi the Gentle Ginormous Giraffe. What kid won’t love those names? And they have many friends with cool names too.Practicing Mindfulness would be a great addition to a child’s library. I may have to purchase a copy for my grandkids when they get a little older. They’re not quite old enough for these concepts yet.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Practicing Mindfulness is such a fun and in-depth activity book that encourages young readers to being present in the moment. Yorkie Poo, Pearl, and Gigi the Gentle Ginormous Giraffe guide the reader through focused breathing, mindful listening, being grateful and generous, and so much more. Written by a licensed social worker, this book is certain to help children learn and grow. It includes fun narration through word searches, mazes, crossword puzzles, coloring prompts, and promotes mental health and living each day to the fullest. The activity instructions are simple and clear, the animals are cute, and the activities provide loads of fun for children in a wide range of ages.Disclosure: #CoverLoverBookReview received a complimentary copy of this book.
