James Jamison

My name is James Jamison; I am 74 years old. Born in South Carolina and honorably discharged in November 1970 from the Air Force. I started writing poetry in New York City in 1972 as a security guard at NYU. I never really liked writing when I was in high school. Since I became interested in writing, I wanted to learn the formal structure of writing. I attended the City College of New York in 1973 and majored in Theater. I took up a year of Playwright and Acting and Directing. However, my passion was writing. I fell in love with writing, and I started writing a collection of poetry and doing short stories. I have two more books I would like to publish. My prize book is "Rachel," published by Author House on 08/29/2007. "Rachel" is a book everyone loves because it relates to everyday people.

T here is a knock on Billy’s door. Billy walks over and opens the door. Who is it? It’s Mel the Man, are you going to let me in? Come in Mel. Billy, I need some place we can talk in private. Let’s go to my bedroom. My mother does not come in my room. Billy, who’s that at the door? Mother, it is Mel. Tell Me I want to see him before he leaves. Alright mother, I will tell him. Billy and Mel are sitting on the bed. Billy, how long have I been knowing you? You have been knowing me for eight years. I am sixteen years of age. You have been knowing me half of my life. What’s this all about Mel? I’ll tell you after we do some cocaine. Mel takes out a bag of cocaine from his shirt pocket and hands it to Billy. Billy opens the cocaine and tastes it with his finger. Mel, this is your best cocaine. What have I done to deserve the best cocaine runners. You have been faithful to me. You are my best worker. You never tried to cheat on me. When I met you, your mother was on welfare and drug addict. She is still on welfare and an addict. She would take the welfare money and buy drugs. I gave you money plenty of times to buy food for your house. I have been like a father to you. When you first started working for me, I put the word on the street that is anybody messes with you I would deal with them. Billy snorts the cocaine. Me, this cocaine is great. I know I would like it. Take all you want, I have plenty of good cocaine.

Billy, can I come in? Mom must have smelled the cocaine. Yes, come on in mother. Billy is your mother getting better with her drug problem? No better, Mel. Billy opens the door. Melissa, how are you doing? I’m not doing good, Mel. My hand is shaking. I’m nervous. I have lost a lot of weight. I’m still on welfare. Mel, I need some cocaine. Look at me, I need it. Melissa you have a drug problem. I can handle it. I’ll be alright after I get some cocaine. Billy, tell Mel to give me some cocaine. Mom, why don’t you go on a drug program. Look at me mom, I use drugs, but I am not and addict. Look at yourself, you are high right now. I’ll be alright, when I get my cocaine. Billy hands her the pack of cocaine. She snorts the cocaine five times up her nose. Mom, give me back the cocaine. You are getting greedy. Mother leave us alone; we have business to take care of. Thank you Mel, Billy I am so proud of you. Only if your father were here! Mother, you don’t know my father and don’t know my father. You conceived me on a PCP hash. You don’t remember who you went to bed with, so I don’t want to hear it. Do you understand? I’m leaving right now son. She leaves Billy’s room.

Mel, what do you want me to do? I need a man I can trust. You can always trust me. I know I can trust you Billy. I will put my life on that. This is going to be my biggest drug deal in my career. I have made a deal for 3 pounds of pure cocaine. I received a top from one of my paid off police officers saying that the police will be keeping an eye on me. I want you to pick up the cocaine. If you get caught you will be charged as juvenile. They will go easy on you because of your age. They will lock me up forever because I am Mel the Man. I need you Billy. Billy, I have been like a father to you. Mel, you don’t have to run that line on me. I will do it. Billy, hand me the cocaine. I’ll snort to your answer. Billy hands Mel the cocaine. Mel is snorting the cocaine up his nose. Billy, my cocaine is good. Mel, it’s the best in town. I don’t cut my stuff. I sell pure cocaine. I must go outside and get the money. I have four bodyguards guarding my money. Mel goes outside to get the
