Union of Hearts - Murray the Parcel Postman

    1.

Jesus replied Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself. All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments.

    Matthew 22:37-40

    INTRODUCTION

When I set out to write this book I had in mind and heart that I would like to convey to my two children what it means to have faith and belief in the Lord God. I thought I would draw on all my studies and investigations and summarise into bite size chunks of words what I understand to be truth.

I have formed the belief within myself that to come to know and love the God of all scriptural truth is a blessing of a very high order. To claim my faith, I have looked at all the major religions of the world to find out what they have in common with each other. I have found a common thread of goodness, love, truth, compassion, mercy, peace, kindness, charity, forgiveness, suffering, freedom and thoughtfulness in all Words of God.

Although I have made up my mind as to which religion I claim for myself, I hope my children will undergo their own spiritual journey and claim one for themselves. As all religions lead to God, I am relaxed as to what they may choose. This book goes some way to guide them on their spiritual journey.

This book is not intended to be an academic dissertation of each of the world’s religions. I leave that task to those who wish to pursue an academic life. Rather, this book is the distillation of my thoughts regarding the truth of the Words of God of all religions. I believe that God is universal and loves all of humankind. His words of truth, love and wisdom were given to all the world and not just one nation of people. I believe that if we viewed God in a universal manner, there would be more peace and harmony in the world. We would be building bridges of love and trust between the nations of all people and not just with those of our chosen religion.

I have adopted a Socratic approach by way of question and answer. I make the assumption that we all have our own answers to the questions posed. However, to open my mind and heart to my children, I have put my answers down on paper. These answers come from intense studies of all major religions. They are not based on intuition, but on learning, rationality, thought and meditation.

I have deliberately adopted an even-handed approach to all religions because I believe that each and every one of us has to make up our own mind as to what we want to believe in. While I answer the questions from a basis of knowledge and understanding, I do not expect blind acceptance. My children are well-educated people with small families. They have demanding work schedules, so I have chosen to be as brief and succinct as I can be. This book endeavours to cut through the clutter and to give an honest and insightful account of universal spiritual truth.

My hope is that others may find it interesting and fascinating to realise that in our spiritual diversity there are some universal truths we can hold onto and apply in everyday life. I believe that each of us is on a spiritual journey of self-discovery whether we realise it or not. The religions of the world can be understood in the framework of them being about all of us and about God who created us.

As we collectively grapple with a one-world concept, we all have the opportunity of finding truth that resonates with our soul. This is the basis of all belief systems. We have this life to choose what will be our everlasting belief. It is a very personal thing, faith. As such it should be treated with great respect and great humility. This is the universal message of all true religions.

I share my inner thoughts for the welfare of my children, my grand-children and to others who may be interested in this book. I hope and pray that I have represented the wisdoms of all religions with dignity and truth. It is also my aim to help unite the reader's heart with the universal heart we call God.

HOW HAVE I COME TO THESE WORDS?

I am very fortunate to have been born into a household that was prosperous and well educated. My good fortune was to have also to be born in Australia, one of the truly lucky countries in the world.

In my early years I spent a year with my family travelling around the world. It was an interesting time in 1969 to be in the USA, Canada, Britain and Europe. It opened my young eyes to other worlds.

In my adult years I have lived and worked in Germany, Italy and China as the CEO of three different companies. My background education is arts, economics, marketing and business. I am very fortunate that I have worked in senior positions for some of the world’s largest companies. This has given me insight into the world of business and a comprehension of people's needs and wants, as most of my work was in one mass marketing of products.

One of the things that I have learned is that we all have a desire to fulfil our needs and wants. I was fortunate to be brought up in a household where religion was spoken about and practised on a daily basis. In my journey through life, I walked away from a religious life for various reasons.

However, I know my life was guided and is guided by powers unseen. To get clarity of spiritual purpose, my life changed radically 18 years ago. You could call it a mid-life crisis and calamity of events. Suffice to say, what I resolutely sought to do was to go back to basics and study all the world’s religions.

I have undertaken a private, extensive study of all the world’s religions. In this I have relied on my marketing skills and expertise to research, analyse and investigate truth and wisdom. In coming to my answers I have not gone to a guru or to a specific religious institution, nor to university. Rather, I have used all my worldly marketing skills and training to guide me along the path I have walked. I believe God’s spirit has guided my journey as He does for all sincere seekers of spiritual truth.

I have used the internet widely to research commentaries of the Words of God from respected and learned people. I have acquired the major Words of God and read them fully. I have been led to new thought as well as old thoughts on some of these religions. I have dedicated significantly greater hours to spiritual truth compared to all my undergraduate and post graduate studies.

I have been fortunate to have had low paid menial work such as parcel post delivery that has enabled me to not just survive but to find the mental space and time necessary to absorb complex and detailed words and commentaries.

I am also fortunate that I was a young father of two children and led a normal and successful life up to my early 40s immersed in the world and their growth and development. I am also fortunate to have had the time, education and inclination to pursue my desire to grasp universal spiritual truths.

WHY A NEW SPIRITUALITY FOR THE NEW AGE?

It was not so long ago that there was no Facebook, mobile phones, satellites, planes, cars, supermarkets or television. In my lifetime the world has already changed greatly. It has become truly interconnected.

What we need to do is to stop and look at what has happened around the world and assess what is good and what is evil. To do this we need to know and understand the principles of religious thought and their timeless messages.

We need to use both our brains, the rational logical mind and the emotional spiritual mind. We need to integrate our thinking and bring it into union with divine truth. We need to use the knowledge of past thinkers to guide us in this newly created world. We need to consciously work to bring the Lord God’s vision into a spiritual reality.

This book poses questions as to how this can come into being and how we can find fulfilment and happiness in religious truth.

While we see huge progress in the material world, the divisions between religions and nations is a cause of much tension and conflict. If we are to achieve peace, we need to get a greater understanding between people of different religions and cultures. We need to convey knowledge to give insight while showing respect. The internet and media are primary sources for conveying messages that build bridges rather than walls. We need our leaders in all walks of life to embrace diversity, unity and peace.

There is much good that is being done. Free trade agreements are a source of harmonious business practice. Environmental accords are another example. However, there are some gaping holes in the pursuit of a more harmonious, prosperous world. I address some of these in my spiritual questions and answers.

WHAT IS THE NEW AGE OF SPIRITUALITY?

The new age is a new epoch where there is not only a
