Come In from the Cold
Aparty of friends decided to go hiking in the Alps one winter. They brought all the right equipment to stay warm and were excited to brave the elements together.
They hiked for several hours before it started to snow. It quickly became a snowstorm, so they decided to set up camp.
They lit a small cook fire in the tent to stay warm. Soon, however, they ran out of water.
One man volunteered to fill a pot with snow so they could melt it. The others protested, as it was too windy, and they feared he would be swept off the mountain.
The man told them he would be back in a minute, and he went out into the cold. After a few minutes, someone decided to check on him. They opened the tent just enough to peek out.
The man who had gone out into the storm was nowhere to be seen. The others couldn’t imagine what had become of him, and it was too cold, windy, and snowy to look for him. They tried to radio for help, but the storm was interfering with the signal. They decided they’d look for him in the morning when the storm had calmed down, and everyone went to sleep.
In the middle of the night, one of the men awoke to hear the tent being unzipped. He turned on his flashlight, wondering if it was their friend who had somehow survived the brutal conditions outside.
He saw a man's head, covered in ice and snow, peeking into the tent. But the face was very pale, and seemed bluish around the lips. The figure’s eyes were frozen wide with terror. If
