About this ebook
Four years later, it’s Christmas Eve, and Jovy and Saul are both eighteen. After receiving a call from Saul’s sister, Jovy agrees to look after Saul, who is disabled. His sister is often out and about, hence the reason Saul feels lonely.
Jovy’s both nervous and excited about reuniting with Saul. He always celebrates Christmas Eve with his family, a tradition he’s never missed in his life, so he figures he can hang out with Saul until evening, then invite him along to be with the family. No one should spend Christmas alone.
Unfortunately, Jovy and Saul end up locking themselves in Saul’s safe room, and his out-of-town sister is the only one with the key. This will be the first year Jovy misses out on the family tradition but he and Saul attempt to make the best of the situation while also growing closer than ever, even discovering new things about each other.
Saul has two Christmas gifts for Jovy, and one of them could change their friendship. Will Jovy accept the present? Or will they remain best friends forever?

Writing has been a significant part of my life since my teen years, and it continues to be more so than ever. Throughout that time, I've not only improved my writing in various ways, but I've met numerous writers and readers from different parts of the world. I found support in the form of friends, both personal and business. While they may be few, they mean a lot to me.

Christmas in a Safe Room
By Kieran Frank
Lending a helping hand was something I had been good at for as long as I could remember. I used to climb trees to save cats. I’d studied a lot and had taken good notes, which helped with tutoring other students in high school. I had even learned various technologies to help my grandparents out, which helped them keep up with the times.
What I hadn’t done, though? I had agreed to look after Saul Zacarias whenever his sister, Patricia, was out of town. Saul and I used to be best friends after coming out to each other—he as gay and I as asexual. We had met through our fathers, who had already been good friends—Papi and Mr. Zacarias were coworkers in the auto industry. Saul had been like a brother from another mother: he was the bold and adorable rebel, and I was the spineless and impressionable fool, an odd duo. In fact, we’d hung out so much that we’d practically been stuck to each other like glue, regularly staying the night at each other’s houses. He’d even nicknamed me Jovy, a name that only he got to call me.
One time, we’d playfully sworn via joke love letters that if we were still single when we turned eighteen, we’d become boyfriends. What an odd pact to make, and even odder that he’d changed his last name to mine, Quezada. However, given that I hadn’t felt anything romantic for him then, and he’d probably felt the same, I figured it’d been all in jest and nothing more. It was supposed to have been a pact, but where had that left us? No, it most definitely had been a joke.
By the time high school had started, he’d joined the basketball team and had gotten busier than ever, whereas I’d strictly focused on studying after realizing my academic performance for the following four years mattered to colleges. Ultimately, since we had already lived a
