Introduction

Devin Ford and I collaborated as co-authors for this story. It was a lot of fun. We split the writing duties basically down the middle.

What was great was we both had input into the two points of view of the main characters: Jenny and Cole.

We wanted very much to show the hot sparks that can fly when a modern woman who is independent and driven to succeed, meets a man who is Alpha to the core.  Cole is a real man not the typical pretty boy player Jenny is used to.

Chapter 1

Jenny

Fall is turning to winter too fast in Boston.

This should be a happy time. But it isn't. It's basically hell. 

I am just a girl when you get down to it.  I want to be loved for real. Not played with like some toy.

I don't want attention only when it's convenient for Michael. I want him to choose me. And it's clear he won't.

The more I get deep into my career and city living, the more I question it. All this stuff in life seems like detail to me. Things that don't matter. What matters is feeling real love. The excitement of being swept off my feet by a man I admire.

I guess I am more of a girly girl. I am more old fashioned at heart than I like to admit.  I did all the right things to be independent. I went to school, worked hard, got my degree and did the intern thing to get a good job.

But deep down I don't care.

I want a man. I want a relationship. I want to be treated like how my dad treats me my mom. He was always in charge and took care of things. I want a real man like him.

Not some player like Michael.  I know why I choose him every time he calls me or sends me a text late in the evening wanting to come over.

No man does it for me like he does. But he's got other girls. When I showed up at his apartment to surprise him this week and saw him with his face in the neck of one of the new interns at the firm, it reminded me of what a snake he is. It was a brutal reminder of how little I matter to anyone.

Boston sucks now.

Before it was exciting being the successful one. The small town girl from a dying mill town in upstate New York, hitting it big in the city. And doing it before age Twenty Five.

It's nice to know that I am admired back home, but it isn't making me feel any better about life.  While Michael is sleeping with the next pretty young thing in nylons and a tight skirt, I am watching the wind whip the last of the leaves off the trees outside my apartment.

And the worse part is I am wishing he'd call. Because I'd let him come over and fuck me.

This has to end. I need something new.

Maybe I'll get the hell out of here for a couple weeks? Maybe Florida? I haven't been there since junior
