Chapter 1

The place was trash, really.

Lily stood outside the tattoo shop with a frown across her lips, her hips canted and weight settled on one leg. Her Louis Vuitton purse hung from a shoulder, her slim fingers and manicured nails curled around the leather strap. The whole neighborhood was trash:  the streets were filthy and littered with cigarette butts, aluminum cans, and remnants of fast food and snack wrappers. The buildings looked like they had been built in the ‘80s and not seen a power wash or a coat of paint since. The sidewalks were uneven and cracked.

‘Forest Ink.’ The shop name was stenciled on the glass door, along with hours of operation and a phone number. It was the right place.
