    Introduction

    The giant awakens. Creativity is rising. The level of original thought is forcefully advancing. Africa's future is brimming with optimism. Young people are engaging in a wide range of creative pursuits as design, fashion, media, education, and innovative enterprises face severe labor disruptions. Evidently, the COVID-19 pandemic disruption has increased the need for creativity and creative talents. The convergence of digital and creative technologies has heralded a golden age. Today, employers from many fields are looking to the periphery, casting their nets wider in search of talents that can infuse their organizations with new perspectives, creative thinking, and innovation. Ladies and gentlemen, I have the honor of introducing to you The New Gold for Our New World. The irreplaceable role of creativity is decisively and profoundly altering the course of development across the continent, bit-by-bit. It is becoming increasingly apparent that all sectors of society, from the public sector to the private sector to academia and civil society, all need to give this trend significant consideration, and make the necessary shifts to establish themselves as frontrunners in the creativity-driven Future Economy.

    My consulting work has allowed me to watch as African and foreign business owners create thriving enterprises across a wide range of industries. These individuals understand the value of anticipating market volatility and unfulfilled demand. Inspiring ways of thinking and doing business can be gleaned from these people, such as developing a nuanced, compassionate knowledge of persistent issues and then asking questions such as, What can I do to make things better, NOT worse? "In what ways can I contribute significantly?

    We need to think without the box, away from the tried and true methods that have always been employed, if we want to push the boundaries of the human mind and accomplish great things. Africa as a whole needs to be introspective, envisioning a future where it is innovative, environmentally conscious, socially just, and technologically advanced enough to meet the goals of both the 2030 and 2063 Agendas. It is my contention that we must maintain our focus on driving a sharp creative revolution across all sectors of society, including but not limited to governments, universities, nonprofits, and the private sector, if we are to realize these goals, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined by the United Nations (UN), which are an aspirational universal call to action to end poverty, safeguard the planet, and make sure that everyone enjoys prosperity. And that's exactly what I'm hoping to accomplish with this book, The New Gold for Our New World: to encourage a thriving culture of creativity and innovation in Africa, which might lead to lower crime rates, increased economic opportunity, and more employment prospects. However, we cannot begin until we shift our thinking. Failure to do so will prevent the Sustainable Development Goals, Agenda 2030, and Agenda 2063 from being realized.

    Our new world provides exciting opportunities for individuals, global and Africa-based systems to tap and harness the unlimited creative potential of Africa's young, rapidly growing, and increasingly urbanized population. Creativity will be the resource that we value the most and that gives us the most power in this era. Because of this, I've tried to present this book as a straightforward, user-friendly guide to bolster Africa's creativity and innovation even further; a set of basic, actionable guidelines every stakeholder can follow to ensure that our decisions broaden rather than limit our prospects. Could it really matter that much? No question about it, YES. I believe that constant strategic reinvention protects against becoming obsolete in a rapidly evolving world.

    Having said that, innovation and originality are highly valued in today's economy. Today's complex issues need creative solutions more than ever before. The capacity to think creatively about approaches to solving issues is in higher demand than ever before in this age of increasing automation. Because of their proven ability to boost productivity and ultimately the economy, creativity and innovation in the workplace are no longer only desirable; they are essential in today's competitive job market and global society. And because of their weighty influence on the economy, developing nations need to adopt cutting-edge methods and/or creative abilities if they are to maintain their competitive edge.

    However, it takes years of dedicated practice to reach a level of expertise in an artistic or creative field. In my experience, just a handful of individuals and/or organizations possess even the most fundamental abilities to initiate a culture of innovation and creativity. Far too many sit about and wait for innovation to just happen before they start to worry about it. But it doesn’t work that way. The good
