Swipe Right - How To Successfully Navigate Modern Dating - Sarah A Hart

Dating - Where Do We Start?

We all have some sort of dating war story.

Be it the catfish pretending to be something they’re not, being stood up, the secret racist, the cheater or the person that’s rude to the waitstaff, trying to meet someone can be a minefield of bad dates... They say that all is fair in love and war, but just like war, in love, one must prepare. Prepare to put your best foot forward and prepare to face the challenges that lay ahead. Dating isn't particularly easy, but when done with the right attitude, it can be properly amazing.

Once upon a time, the decision of who we spent the rest of our lives rested in the hands of our parents. More recently, it was decided by who we went to school with or who we grew up with as we had to rely much more on our relatively small social circle to hook us up with a potential match. Now we have a pool of millions of singles across many different dating apps online, on our phones, all searching for that one person (or multiple people) that will make their life complete. The question is, where do we start?

Dating has become quite intimidating over recent decades. However, the basics have remained surprisingly simple: be yourself. Of course, that’s easier said than done.

With so many options for a partner right at our fingertips, we’ve become almost too critical of others when it comes to selecting a date. We’re all trying to find that one perfect person for us, but is so much choice a good thing?

It seems these dating apps, while they come with lots of positives in connecting people who maybe would never have met naturally, are not without their downsides.

When it comes to successful dating a lot of it starts with you. Going on a first date is nerve-wracking, but it also should be exciting and fun. What you bring to a date in terms of energy and personality, as well as mindfulness on conversation topics can greatly improve or kill your chances of a second date.

Learning from your past relationships, interactions and experiences can also be a massive factor in growing as a person and not making the same mistakes again in the future.

Once you have gotten on good terms with yourself and are ready to launch into the world of dating, both online and in real life, then it’s time to take that big step and find the right person to let into your life.

    Starting with Yourself

Dating has become a very complex world with an overwhelming amount of options. The truth is, it doesn’t have to be so hard. Let’s break everything down into smaller steps. In this book we’ll go into various ways to make your online profile shine, habits you can pick up to be more confident, how to interact in real life to build interest in a potential partner, and finally walk you through the first date. Before we get to any of the above however, we need to focus on becoming the best version of ourselves to show off to the world.

Dating doesn’t have to be a modern nightmare; in all honesty, it doesn’t have to be a nightmare at all. It can be a dream come true if you have the right attitude and the tools to face it. Dating is an adventure to find the person we want to spend the rest of our lives with. It’s also supposed to be fun. It’s a time to meet new people, discover things about yourself and discover what you want and need from life. You already have all the tools you need to thrive within the sea of dating. Now you need to learn how to refine them and adapt them to the world we live in.

When it comes to dating, a lot of times the first thing to start with is understanding yourself. Self-realization about what you have to offer can help you easily write out a fantastic profile for yourself, as well as know what you can do to become the best version of yourself to attract someone amazing.

After looking at ourselves we are going to learn from the past. We’ll briefly revisit past relationships in order to realize what exactly caused the breakup. (The truth is, it’s usually not the reason we tell others, or ourselves.)

Breakups don’t usually happen overnight, although, for the person being dumped, it can seem that way sometimes. They are a decision made over time, and lots of factors go into making that decision. Sometimes when taking a step back from the relationship after a breakup, we can suddenly see what we could’ve done better.

We’ve all made mistakes, but a worse one would be not learning from them.

After taking a good long look in the mirror, and looking into the past, we’ll turn toward the future. It’s an exciting unknown that both amazes and terrifies us, so we need to know what we are looking for when dating and being completely upfront about it from the start. We could end up with another bad date or two along the
