Our Community During the Kennedy Era

About this ebook
Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary is located in Mequon. Wisconsin. Professors and students tend to be of German extraction, though there are exceptions.
As is still true today, our community was conservative during the Kennedy era. We sympathized with the objective of Senator McCarthy and looked askance at the incipient liberal movements that were raising their heads. Some liked the new rock music, but most liked the classics. As far as our lives were concerned, the drug problem was irrelevant.

Our Community during the Kennedy Era
When President Kennedy was assassinated, my home was Hustisford, Wisconsin. However, I spent most of my time in Mequon, Wisconsin, where I was attending Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary.
Since Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary was a conservative Christian school, the members of my community tended to cherish conservative political views. Some sympathized with Senator McCarthy when he struggled against Communism about a decade before, and many favored Barry Goldwater when he ran for president a few years later.
Not surprisingly, there was considerable dissatisfaction with the political and social trends that were occurring in the country at the time. Though the community sympathized with African Americans, they deplored the unfairness of many civil rights objectives. Likewise, I did not know anyone who could be justly classified as a misogynist, but no one liked what the feminists were doing.
