Daniel Zimmermann was born in Merrill, Wisconsin, and grew up in Hustisford, Wisconsin. He was graduated as valedictorian from Northwestern College, Watertown, Wisconsin. His valedictory concerned the ancient philosopher Plotinus. Special honors were third place in an Eta Sigma Phi Greek composition contest and the Doctor Ott award.He was also graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. After serving as pastor for several years, he became a free lance writer. Because of the outstanding success of his Spanish poetry in Mexico, his biography was included in Who's Who in the Midwest. He is also a former member of American Mensa.He is married to Merian, nee Ecot. The couple is residing in the Philippines.Daniel Zimmermann is the author of short stories and poetry. He also writes non-fiction, especially on literature, history, Christianity, and botany.

    Chapter 1

    Composers Born from 1750 to 1765

    Bartolomeo Campagnoli (1751-1827)

    Campagnoli was born in Cento, a town located about thirty-three kilometers north of Bologna.

    He studied violin with various teachers, including Pietro Nardini, the Kapellmeister in the court of the Grand Duke of Tuscany in Florence. During his brief stay in Florence, Campagnoli played in the orchestra of the Teatro della Pergola.

    At this time, he met Luigi Cherubini, his younger contemporary, who was born in Florence and grew up there.

    He moved from place to place. For about a year he played in the orchestra of the Teatro Argentina in Rome. Then in 1776 he became Kapellmeister to the bishop of Freising in Bavaria. A mere two years later he went on a concert tour to various northern European cities.

    He finally enjoyed a more permanent position in 1779. He began to work for the Duke of Courland in Dresden, and he remained at this post till 1797. However, he still did some traveling during this time. For example, he visited Sweden in 1783 and even became a member of the Royal Swedish Academy.
