    One

    The distinct sweet scent of fairy pollen greeted me even before I got off the train. I breathed in deeply, savouring the lightly floral scent that mixed perfectly with the greasy air of fried food.

    I couldn’t believe I was actually here.

    The Fairy Festival. The entire town was decorated with colourful flags and lanterns in preparation for the annual event. Children with large balloons followed their mothers and fathers around, chattering excitedly while eating fairy ice cream and candy.

    I’m so excited we’re here! Julie sighed dramatically. I could actually die. I’ve been wanting to see fairies bloom forever.

    I nodded, sharing the sentiment. It was a truly special event that wouldn’t have been possible if the local conservations hadn’t worked tirelessly to restore the cocoon fields so the fairies could hatch here.

    Rashid and Larissa agreed too and the four of us started our walk to the town square where the festival was held. It was nice that I didn’t have to go alone after Tina cancelled on me, crowds weren’t really my thing and there was a big one here. The enthusiastic chatter
