The story of Saul and Samuel is quite an interesting narrative. Saul went on a journey of destiny without knowing it but God ordained it. He ran into Prophet Samuel called the seer during his own time who gave Saul a prophetic direction and solution to the problem that pursued him to Zuph, where Samuel was as at that time. Since space will not allow me to give details of what transpired between the two, I chose to establish the fact that without a Samuel there wouldn’t have been a Saul, who was anointed King by prophet Samuel even when Saul had no idea he was going to become one.

After Saul’s divine encounter with prophet Samuel, he told Saul about certain prophetic landmarks which were confirmed by God on the way back. Shortly after Saul was anointed King in 1 Samuel 10:1, Prophet Samuel set an exam for King Saul which will either make or mar his future on the throne (1 Samuel 10:8). Prophet Samuel instructed King Saul to go down ahead of him to Gigal and WAIT for him because of an important sacrifice Samuel will perform that will determine to a large extent the success of King Saul and God’s people later in life.

In 1 Samuel 11:14, Prophet Samuel invited all the people to come to Gilgal to renew the covenant. Saul was just the king with a job description in which performing sacrifices was not inclusive. The conclusion of this narrative is that in 1 Samuel 13:12–13, King Saul stepped out of his office because of impatience and did what was not part of his assignment. He offered the burnt sacrifice claiming that he waited for some time but had to force himself to do what he shouldn’t have done.

This act of impatience led to the beginning of king Saul’s fall. God’s servant said to him that he had acted foolishly. Impatience, therefore, can cause a major setback or total cancellation of a man’s destiny.

Pastor Segun Idahor in his book A Little Patience Will Not Hurt You has given us Godly guidelines to avoid the pitfalls of impatience especially in this world of Quick Fix.

Reading through is a journey that is worth the while and will definitely impart the virtue of patience on you. I endorse this book with every sense of responsibility. Welcome to your next level.

    Introduction

One of the most glaring spiritual attacks that have been unleashed on mankind in modern times is the spirit of impatience. The world has become a microwave generation that wants things to be done in a now…now syndrome situation. They have imported the speed of the development of technology into character traits. They have forgotten that patience is a virtue. And impatience is not a virtue. Order is more vital than speed. Careful and deliberate decision-making after consideration is far better than hasty decision-making.

But unfortunately, in today’s world, this is the trend, and this is making many people, including believers, in making foundational and fundamental mistakes that awkwardly affect their lives. Patience is what is needed and not the speed of technology when it applies to human beings. We thank God for technological developments, but it is not in consonance with human behavior and relational decision-making. For example, we cannot use technology to make lifetime decisions about life partners. Some people will argue and say, how about dating sites on the internet? And without any form of political correctness, please search the successful rate of survivors and you will agree that: A Little Patience Will Not Hurt You. We cannot substitute or relegate the virtue of patience in lifetime decision-making. Even before pressing the button of enter (technical devices) in today’s world, calculated pause or patience is required.

Patience means waiting and this is a tool God uses to perfect our faith. Please let us look at James 1:2–4 NKJV as stated below:

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

    (James 1:2–4 NKJV)

Beloved, patience requires stilling ourselves quietly before God no matter the situation. Waiting sometimes can be frustrating but God uses it to transform our character. Furthermore, and sometimes if we are not sensitive, we get frustrated with waiting, that is, being patient with God, and we compound it by saying, we want to do it our way, compromising spiritual standards, that we run ahead of God and into unnecessary situations and rough paths. Whereas
