    DEMON INVASION

(The Vampire from Hell - Part 7)

    Chapter 1

    Alice, We Have a Problem

"Nothing happens unless we first dream." ~ Carl Sandburg

    Nine weeks before the wedding

    "Vi! Vello! Vake up!"

It was a scene right out of Alice in Wonderland. But Alice wasn’t the star, I was. From time to time, I had suffered or enjoyed dreams inspired by my blood intake. Having a supply of blood from the gods never hurt, and sometimes their magical powers did find a way into my dreams. Tonight’s dream was no different, or so I thought.

We were having a tea party. Don’t ask me why. All my friends were there. I turned to Grace, my child vampire who was dressed up like a mouse. She smiled, then bouncing high up in her chair, she blew kisses to her boyfriend, Demetri. His outfit consisted of a large floppy blue hat on his head and hardly anything else. He held a slice of cake in his hand. Glancing at me, he smiled and ran his tongue through the white icing. I blushed and looked away. Still, having a great friendship with my ex-boyfriend amazed me.

A growl came to my side, and I felt a nudge on my leg. Suddenly a burst of pink and purple fur invaded my face. My fiancé Blick, as the Cheshire Cat, sat on his haunches and glared at me. I wasn’t looking at him, I grumbled. Dismissing his jealousy, Blick winked at me and proceeded to sashay down the middle of the table as if he owned the entire scene. With his fluffy tail high in the air, he batted a cupcake over to a cute golden retriever puppy. Michael’s voice surfaced from the dog as he scrambled onto the table and raced after Blick. Michael, my other child vampire who was an angel in his own right, let out a bark or a woof sound like a person pretending to bark like a dog. Blick slapped back at him. A cat and dog fight ensued. The fancy white tablecloth rushed away from me. I watched it roll off the long wooden table onto the ground, pulling all the cupcakes, cookies, tiny sandwiches, teacups, saucers, and tea pitchers with it. That’s a shame, I thought. But I didn’t move. I simply watched as the world raced away.

    "Vi! Vello! Vake up!"

Looking around me as I sat at the other end of the long table, I tried to ignore the fact that someone seemed to be pushing on me. I saw no one around me but felt a force, a force refusing to go away.

    "Vi! Vello! Vake up!"

My father Satan appeared at my right side and purred in my ear. He was a tall gray rabbit like Frank from the movie Donnie Darko. His ears were long and trailed down his fancy gray suit. Holding a silver serving platter, he shoved the dish in my face. Another piece of cake, my dear? Gray fur glistened on the tops of his hands, and I noticed his extremely long claws. They reminded me of Blick’s claws when he was in werewolf form. My heart sank into my stomach.

Taking the cake from my father, I smiled up at him. His face changed to a shade of deep red with human features instead of a rabbit. His eyes were a brilliant meadow green. Fangs peaked out from under his lips. Completely inhuman. The opposite of what I had heard he now was. An ex-demon. A fallen angel, neither demonic or angelic, merely mortal.

    "Vi! Vello! Vake up!"

Are you okay, Rayea? he asked.

    Something’s wrong.

Oh, nothing is wrong. It couldn’t be now. You’re perfect. You’re human.

I raised my hand, trying to summon my fire power. Nothing happened. I visualized a ball of red and orange flames in my hand. Nothing happened.

One more piece of cake and I’ll have both my human daughters back in my arms, Father purred.

Forgetting what I was doing, I shoved the piece of moist white wedding cake into my mouth. Opening my mouth wide, I expected to feel my vampire fangs. I didn’t. I smacked the icing around in my mouth, letting cake crumbs and pieces fall wherever they wanted to land. Do vampires eat food? I wondered.

Looking for something? my father asked.

My fangs! Where are my fangs?

Good question, he replied. Where are your fangs now?

    I screamed.

    Chapter 2

    Morning Smoothies

"A kiss is but a modified bite..." ~ Ambrose Bierce

Vi! Vello! Vake up! Veze vake up! Vake up!

When I opened my eyes, one of my wedding presents was sitting on my lap. He was pushing on my arms, slapping at my face with his small, furry hands. When he saw I was awake, he sat back on his butt and waved to me. Vi!

Grabbing his little furry foot, I tickled the inside of the leathery skin of his arch. He giggled and clapped his hands at me. Ves! Ves! Vlay vine! Vlay vine!

I rolled my eyes at him and smiled. No, Vee. It’s not play time just yet. I think I was having a dream. Was it a dream?

Ves! Ves! he answered. Ves! Ves!

Vee looked like any normal cuddly teddy bear of about three feet tall, covered in light, coffee-brown fur with huge, questioning dark chocolate-colored eyes. With his small, slender fingers and toes, Vee acted more like a monkey on many days, attempting to grab anything that caught his interest. One could argue he was a walking, talking pint-sized teddy bear who had come to life-until you noticed his bat-like pointed ears, vivid golden eyes with flecks of red, and supremely sharp demon teeth. As long as he kept his mouth shut, Vee appeared to look like Ted from the talking bear movie or Gizmo, the adorable mogwai character from Gremlins, the 1984 classic comedy horror movie you likely know of but have not seen in its entirety. Once Vee opened his mouth, he immediately became the center of attention, and a few of my more intelligent friends had figured out he was probably some sort of demon.
