About this ebook

One of America's most beloved writers, Lilian Jackson Braun—author of twenty-four Cat Who... mysteries—becomes the subject of a mystery herself. In this spoof by one of her most ardent admirers, Braun's beheaded body has been discovered in the men's room of a gay bar in Lower Manhattan. The police are baffled, and so it is up to Braun's eccentric writer friend, James Q. (Qafka), and his Siamese cats Ying-Ton and Poon-Tang to solve the ghastly mystery. Q.'s quest leads him on a hilarious, ribald chase that's a cross between a story by Lenny Bruce and Dashiell Hammett. Before it's done, we've encountered Pulitzer Prize-winning Philip Roth, a sex-starved suburban housewife, a mysterious Hollywood diary, Britney Spears, an ancient secret society, and two gifted cats whose trail of urine and hairballs leads Q. and his spunky undergraduate assistant to finally unravel the riddle of which cat killed Lilian Jackson Braun.

This satire of the "Cat Who" books will not charm fans of the series. It lacks the coziness of the original series, instead filled with promiscuity and vile language. Very little action on the alleged mystery concerning her death ever occurred with the exception of a bit of research into the phrase "lavender ink" which was the included in her last phone call to author James Kafka. I kept thinking they'd eventually get around to the mystery element, but about 65% of the way into the book (which is short--only 4 sections in audio format), I got so fed up with the sex and filthy language, I just abandoned it. Koko and YumYum would have done a far superior job resolving Braun's death. I wish I'd read the reviews here at LibraryThing before downloading it because I thought the title sounded cute when I stumbled across it on Overdrive. Not recommended.

This is actually one of the worst books I have ever read! I read with Audio Books, and made it into the second track - each track is about 3 minutes. The author has strung the (almost) real characters from the real Cat Who ... series into a book that is badly written, uses gratuitious sex and language and insults both the reader and the original series. This author probably thinks this is funny. What I don't understand is why on earth, did any publisher ever take this on - or did the author actually pay for the publication and then manage to get libraries to buy this tome. And, don't librarians ever read (or at least start to read) the books they buy? The libraries are so underfunded it is beyond me why my local library would ever pay good money for this piece of drek.
