About this ebook

Monalisa Letsoalo showcases her poetic ability and artistic intelligence by writing different letters to LIFE and having well needed “conversations” with it. She makes use of personification, metaphors, similes, rhymes and other facets of poetic language. Her Letters to Life take the reader on a four seasonal journey about her life experiences as well as observations she has made on social issues. The reader will be able to become fully immersed in how these seasonal journeys range from being completely dark and gloomy to becoming introspective and motivational. Having grown up as an introverted individual, writing became her strongest outlet. This book aims at inspiring every person who has continuously suffered from the Imposter Syndrome and has therefore been afraid and procrastinated about telling their true authentic story. Monalisa Letsoalo is a South African writer, aspiring film producer and businesswoman.

Her Letters to Life - Monalisa Letsoalo

    Acknowledgements

The first and most important person I would like to acknowledge is God. While He crafted me in my mother’s womb, He already knew that He was crafting an artistic being whom He has called to heal and restore others through words. There were moments where I tried to escape the artistic bug He had planted within me due to fear and uncertainty. Even then, He continued to carry me out of my shell and place me exactly where I was meant to be.

To my parents, I thank you for bestowing me with a name that comes with such an abundance of beautiful historical stories and songs. It is almost as though you both had a conversation with God about my purpose on this earth and decided to crown me with a name which was perfectly fitting for it. Even though my dad is no longer on planet earth to experience the wonderful woman his daughter has turned out to be, his children are under the wing of the strongest woman, my loving mother. She has managed to rise and fall with me as my road to self-discovery has been the most intricate and challenging. She has witnessed all the blood, sweat and tears which ultimately brought me to this moment of realising my dream. She has been a God-sent Lioness who takes pride in taking care of her cubs. I also thank my late grandmother and aunt who always made sure that I watched theatre shows at the Market Theatre as well as dance practices at the Dance Factory every single weekend from the tender age of seven.

To my ancestors, I say, "Thokozani Abogogo nabo Mkhulu" (ancestral praises). Thank you for passing down the gift of writing, self-expression and healing through words to your beloved daughter.

To my two most treasured educational institutions, Maryvale College Primary/ High School and the University of Johannesburg, I thank you for grooming me to be the person I am today. I can confidently speak, read and write fluently thanks to all the knowledge you have equipped me with.

To my siblings, being raised by a single parent has been a challenging journey yet you all offered me words of encouragement, even on days when my dreams felt impossible to reach.

To Reach Publishers, thank you for your assistance in the publishing of my book. Your professionalism and passion for words is remarkable and highly appreciated.

Lastly, to all my friends, family and acquaintances I will make through this book, I hope you all find healing and restoration through every single word and that you share all the inspiring anecdotes with your loved ones.

I am immensely proud to represent the streets of Alexandra Township, better known as Gomora. Most importantly, I am gratified for being able to fly the South African flag as high as I can to the rest of the globe. Kenna Monalisa Letsoalo, Moradi Wa Banareng (clan praises).

    THE GLOOMY SEASON

    Dear Procrastination

Your induction to the face of the earth and human population certainly is by far the utmost catastrophic.

Conferences are deferred, endeavours are unsettled and ultimately, faith is misdirected due to your uncompromising meddling, meddling so uncompromising that it
