About this ebook

This is a collection of poems. The themes touched in this book are varied. It seeks to give answers to some of the most basic questions a young man, zealous to change the status quo in his family and community, asks secretly in the chambers of his loneliness. The themes of love and rejection take a major section of the collection. The collection has also tried to retell some of the stories told of old.
Being the poets first poetry collection to be published, the book lives much for the reader to decipher.
The personalities the piece is dedicated to are Torgbe Arku Dompey XI, Chief of Kpeve New Town and Torgbe Dr. Ulrich Randlisbacher, a Swiss philanthropist and the establisher of Kpeve Senior High School. The dedication is meant to spice them up for the task facing them to develop Kpeve and its education system.

Author

Apollodorus Africanus Swaine

Apollodorus Africanus Swaine (officially, Dzube Victor Kwame) comes from Kpeve in the Volta Region of Ghana. A young and ambitious writer, he has been writing poetry since a child in the primary school. A teacher of poetry, he finds writing as a special gift. Coming from a humble background, his poems reflect, more often than not, themes of rejection and struggle and most importantly, hope. Most of his poems show elements of true life affairs and the effect they have on him as a poet. Appreciating the rich cultural heritage of his people, he is dedicated to making ‘those stories live again’ by giving history flesh and artistic touch. He is much concerned about restoring the dignity and the strength of his culture to bring development and untiy. He is currently a teacher (at Harlem International School), trainer, life coach and a software and website developer.

    DEDICATION

This collection is dedicated to the man whose efforts and love for a community gave me the education that I nearly missed. Torgbe Dr. Ulrich Randlisbacher, your generousity and progressiveness has made me, and so many other lucky ones, the opportunity to call ourselves second cycle graduates. To you and your team of philanthropists, I say kudos and never forget us.

Also to the current chief of Kpeve New Town, Torgbe Arku Dompey XI, and all his Elders. For surely, I believe your ascension of the throne is pre-destined for the development of our community. No one could do better.

I believe in Kpeve, and the African spirit, and I also believe that we can make it to the top, individually and also as a community. With this piece of work, I want to hope that my people will find good in the culture of togetherness that made us one and hopeful. I, therefore, look forward to the dedicates to send Kpeve to where it needs to be.

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Let the drums beat in your praise

Let the lyre a beautiful tune raise

’Tis me with my adoring phrase

When your kind deeds I trace.

Let all the following people take pride in this little poem, for their deeds I have no other way of repaying than mentioning them in my childish but self-cherished songs. Never mind me repeating names from my previous publication, it makes no difference the people that matter to you—or you rather matter to them.

My gratitude goes to the rest two of the 3IDs and their allies. I know I don’t need a castle or a throne for sitting in. all I need is true friends. Thanks for being there.

Again to my foster mother, Perfect Agbeko (Daawa), and her children, Daina, Pearl and their children. To Prosper Doh (Pushur), Richard Nana Kwaku Afriyie, Dompey Victor Kwame and Benson Agbeko.
