Diamonds and Pearls, and the Harsh Reality of This World - Sarah Ramos
Imagine someone being dead to people but still alive
They ruled it a suicide
Was really a manslaughter
They’ll never tell you that part
Testifier number one
She didn’t do it
Life keeps moving, you have to move with it
-from Susan Linda’s guest / 10:39
Have you ever experienced the sound of music so strong
A whole family somehow got together and came along
Put aside their differences and picked up some instruments
They turned my grandma’s building into a live show
Maracas and palitos for all
Two on the congas
Always papa on güicharo
Everybody singing
Lalo on the Cuatro
La banda de Casita the one on 40th street
Between 4th and 5th
2nd floor to the left you couldn’t miss it
Up the steps the party continues
In mamas house
Baila conmigo
Get on with the show
Everyone’s a salsero and salsera
And you didn’t stop dancing till the sun and moon kissed
4 am and the music needed rest
Yet some wished they could still party and riot
Never wanting to have to face the quiet
10:52
The way she shines in the darkness of the night
Her light makes the world bright up with delight
Truest of ravens
Deep as a poet
Her eyes glisten when the sun hits them
Pools of green and golden
12:02
With all that pressure on her she’s as tough as carbon dust
The diamond forming underneath the surface is one worth millions
Yet it’s not ready to mine it is still in the rough
She knows her value
Her time is precious
She sees through the bullshit and everyone’s messes
If you’re looking for someone to drag along
You should pick up the phone and call a clear quartz honey
Cause this Diamonds worth more than all your money
12:12/1:33
We may be structured the same
Down to the T with the same last name
Similar DNA running through our veins
But me and you are different
We are nothing alike
You have petty tendencies and do things out of spite
Me on the other hand
I’m here for a good time
I see through your broken ego, but that doesn’t make it right
I wish things were different and one day they shall
I hope you can see my perspective and our story can once again be
I know you shouldn’t have gone through those things but why’d you take it out on me
Xoxo your little sister
12:17
Did you truly like her for the person she was inside
Or did you see her name came attached with the biggest prize of life
A personal chef
A therapist
Even a french maid
The mom character
The best friend character
The perfect housewife
Did you only care about the fortune and fame attached to the Diamond
Only to find out she isn’t for sale
She sits in a display case that travels through the islands
12:48
The car window became my safe space
Music blasting as I was watching the world
Simply passing through as a very young girl
The drive to Brooklyn at least three times a week
Was memorized in my weekly spreadsheets
The I HEART ️NY
painted on the grass before the first bridge
The CSI building filled with knowledge
The cop who sat by the toll booth on the side of the street
The tile store in the middle of nowhere, the mafia couldn’t be more discrete
The Atlantic ocean below the bridge filled with pollution and despair
My mom and dads childhoods lingered in the air
My cousins and their stories filled the streets below
Charles pizzeria fueled my soul
The Chinese food up the block was better than gold
New York you will always be my forever home
1:19/1:45
Do not allow yourself to become consumed in the shadow of other people
Let your light shine brighter than the sun on an open field
Their thoughts and comments are based on their own trauma
You are
A queen
A king
A divine
Their words may hurt but don’t let them dim your light
1:444
That’s what happens in life
Seasons change
People leave
They forget how to spell your name
That doesn’t mean the memories have to go away
For they are the reason you are this way
Sometimes it’s sad or may make you mad
But remember when that moment was present you smiled with glad
The best-friendship of a young girl and her dad
Or the way her mom’s smile felt like the sun
On a beach on the island drinking spiced coconut rum
Or the first time she broke her knee
The people beside her praying for her peace
Don’t let the sadness lock away your memories
Knock knock who’s there
It’s the police
11:53
My Aunt can’t afford health insurance
But celebrities we know are going to space
Whilst my dad digs holes to provide gas for our race
The world is in debt trillions of dollars
They break our atmosphere to see the sky
And our planet slowly continues to die
The only home we’ve all ever seen
All dying for some rich
