Joanna M. Pilatowicz is an adult's coach, dancer, dance teacher, choreographer, author, abstract painter, and recording artist. She has lived in Poland, The Netherlands and currently resides in Germany. Her master thesis, "Expansion Through Dance," explored the concept of using dance as a healing media, positively influencing not only body, but mind and soul as well. Life in the Netherlands inspired her to write her first short stories, in Polish language, hiding some of observed reality behind the veil of fantasy. As she says, "Passing the borders of reality, I would say I am entering the world of fantasy, dreamland, and paranormal; however it is all still connected to everyday life." "I was always drawn by what's invisible to a human eye. At the same time, probably from a desire to understand my own Self and motives more, I started to write diaries which unfolded in an unexpected way. So I just followed it." "The supernatural creatures in my books and paranormal aspects present there are my own ways of expressing my reality, linking non - fiction with a feeling world as well as adding some sort of higher force to it." "It is my own metaphor for different roles from our so-called subpersonalities that perhaps want to share their story with us, in order for us to grow, explore, experience or have a more fulfilling life. I do my best to follow these inner voices, giving them space and grabbing their message." For more information about Joanna and her passions, please visit: www.ifnotdance.com

When Runes Happen to You - Joanna M. Pilatowicz
Who is this book for and how to co-create with Runes
Dear Reader,
This book is more for having it and using it when needed than for reading.
You will find here collected descriptions for the practical application of Runes, whether for divination, decoration according to the laws of Feng Shui and setting it in a proper direction, or energy work with Runes. Some of you will use them in magic, understood as an influence on the conscious shaping of reality, with thoughts, emotions, symbols, vision, intention, and words.
Therefore, I present a collection of the most important meaning, the basic knowledge that you should connect with you if you deal with Runes in any form. I encourage you to explore the topic of how to draw or activate Runes, and in which direction to hang them, as it matters.
Remember that Runes are a tool. How they resonate with you, how they will be combined with your powers, depends on your intention, purity, and ethics. It’s up to you how you use it, how it will assist you in your activities in the world, whether for the protection of health, property, or love. My only caveat is that the Runes I paint can never be used to harm someone.
Why Runes
The runes came to me in the form of characters that someone thought I could read. I could not. They had no colour. It was barely a mark on a grey background. A small description book did not look very appealing, but ... Something in me wanted to paint them, add colour to them, enliven them, or maybe activate them?
When a few years later I was holding another book by Michael Howard, The magic of the Runes,
an older figure appeared to me. As I found out later, he looked very much like Odin. I’d never read Edda, considered as an absolute basis for this knowledge.
Odin was staring at me as if he wanted to judge something. I didn’t feel that he was judging me in any particular way, but the calmness that emanated from him encouraged me to experiment with Runes more. I haven’t delved too much into what world Odin comes from and what else is there, taking the Norse gods for a bunch of crazy beings who have been given too much power. I didn’t really want to deal with them. However, I liked the Runes. Something in them was emanating quiet wisdom although I knew they were just a tool and a lot always depends on in which hands they will fall into.
What can I do best with them, I asked myself. If they are, they will be. Since they came to me, there was a reason. I would never have started painting abstract art based on these symbols if it weren’t for the Runes. I wouldn’t sit for hours in concentration, listening to the inner guidance patiently if it weren't for the Runes.
What runes are ~ Meaning, Origin, and History
According to Viking tradition, the word 'Rune' means a whispered secret, or mystery .
Runes are an ancient form of writing that was used widely for thousands of years in the lands of northern Europe. A great deal of mystery surrounds their origins and use.
They were used throughout northern Europe, Scandinavia, the British Isles, and Iceland from about 100 B.C.E. to 1600 C.E. Runic signs were etched into stone all over Scandinavia.
