Introduction to the world of gods
Hey Kids!
Let us get started on an amazing journey and read about some of our gods and their mounts. Mounts means… vehicles. Their vahanas. Just like you use your bicycles or cars to go from one place to another, the gods also enjoy their rides. But their vehicles are not like ours. They are different.
Before we read some great stories about the vahanas, let us get to know our gods.
The Hindu mythology mentions hundreds of thousands of gods and goddesses. In fact, our sacred books number it at 33 Crores. Can you believe it!
Talking of the gods, the most powerful are the Trinity of gods, the trimurti. Brahma, the Creator; Vishnu, the Preserver; and Shiva, the Destroyer. Together, they take care of the world and all life on it. Brahma ji lives in Brahmalok, Vishnu ji’s home is called Vaikunth, and Shiv ji’s abode is Mount Kailash in the Himalayas.
The other Vedic gods like Indra, Vayu, Varun and several others also have great powers. They are worshipped by a number of people across the world. Indra is the king of gods and his home is called swarga lok. The other gods also live there. We will read more about them in the pages to come.
As per popular belief, our world is divided into three parts:
The swarga lok or heaven: it is home to the devas (gods) and is usually assumed to be above the earth.
The mrityu lok or the earth: the world of manushyas (human beings) and animals, which we lovingly adore as our home.
The paataal
