Yathni is a little girl studying in Fifth Grade and she is a devotee of Lord Ganesha. Ganesha takes her on an excursion to the legendary mountain of Kailash. This is an abridged version of the story titled ‘Yathni’s Travel to Kailash’ which had already been published. Hence, this is the second edition. An audio book is also available with the audio booksellers.
It is a simple story based on Hindu mythology. A small girl named Yathni and Ganesha, the cute little god of Hinduism are the principal characters. Ganesha takes Yathni on a trip to the legendary mount of Kailash. A novel aeroplane named 'Pushpaka Vimanam' is used in the journey. The girl sees and learns many things during this sojourn. These things form the crux of the story.

As you may be aware , Hinduism is a religion like Christianity, Islam etc. It is a religion being followed in many parts of the world and primarily in India.
God is one. But to personify the various powers of God, Hindu mythology mentions a number of gods and goddesses. Shiva is one such god. Parvathy is his spouse. They have two sons. The elder one is known as Ganesha and the younger one is called Karthikeya. They live in a mountain known as Kailash. It is a mountain somewhere in the universe. No one has seen this mountain.
Ganesha is a cute little god. Before I come to the main story, I will tell you a little bit of interesting information about him because he is one of the primary characters of this story.
Ganesha has got an elephant face and a pot belly. He has two wives. They are known as Siddhi and Buddhi. There is an anecdote to indicate as to how he got his elephant face.
Well. It was a time when Shiva and Parvathi used to live alone in their house at Kailash. The children were not born and Shiva did not keep any servants at home. It was the practice of Shiva to go to the forest early in the morning. He used to remain there doing meditation
