Log Cabin Block Basics, Revised Edition - Jean Ann Wright

    Making Log Cabin Blocks

    Log Cabin Block

The log cabin block starts with a precision cut center square. Fabric logs are then added in a clockwise rotation to make rounds around the square. Each round consists of four logs. The block can be started with dark or light value logs.

    Illustration

1Determine the size of the log cabin block you wish to make using the charts on pages 30–33 to cut the center square to the required size.

Note: We are making an 8" finished block in our example.

    Illustration

2Using the same charts, cut the logs using the measurements given for the size block you want to make.

Tip: You may wish to number the logs as you cut them.
