John had hired a close friend's daughter as a favor after her college graduation. Harriet had been a total nightmare since the day she entered his law firm as his secretary. John didn’t want to do it, but he leaned over his desk and pressed a button on his intercom. “Um, Harriet. Can you find the Jones dossier? And also bring me the Fredricks and Caputo depositions?” Five minutes went by, and nothing happened. He reached over and pressed the intercom button again. “Harriet, are you even there?” Nothing. No answer. He pressed the button a third time and shouted, “Harriet!” Again, nothing. John raised his hand and pinched the bridge of his nose between his eyes. He was getting an onset of his usual Harriet migraine. He realized that he could probably save time by going and getting the dossier and depositions himself. However, there was a greater purpose. He had been bottling a lot of anger at his secretary and primary paralegal. She was clearly not at her desk, and he needed to find her and give her a big piece of her mind. He was done being nice to her.

He stuck his head out of his office door, and she was indeed not at her desk. The rest of the secretary pool desks were also empty – as were his partner’s offices. John had been working late into the evening trying to put the wraps on a potential opening statement. He was set to go before a judge in four days as part of a new class action lawsuit he was litigating against a large retail chain for ongoing workplace harassment issues. Harriet was supposed to be assisting him, and they were the only two left in the practice, that evening. This fit into such a larger pattern of lazy behavior that he really wanted to yell at her. Harriet had only been hired two weeks ago right after her college graduation, and every day she had been phoning it in. Slamming the door behind him, he went to go look for her.

He found her in Conference Room C. This was one of the “safe” places in the law practice of Howard, Dean, and Malenko. This is because it was one of the few places that didn’t have closed circuit cameras monitoring everything. These cameras were largely a necessity, given the highly sensitive nature of the files stored at the practice. However, if you promised a legal client confidentiality and you didn’t meet in a partner’s office – and you actually meant it – then you went to Conference Room C. What he saw in that room astounded him.
Harriet was sitting on a highly expensive mahogany conference table. She had one of her high heels planted on the table, and her other leg dangled towards the floor. She had her skirt hiked up ....
