    Hidden Lust - E.L. Jones

    Chapter One

    Claude

Claude watches Vega’s lifeless head roll from side-to-side as he makes a quick turn. He nudges her gently to make sure she’s completely unconscious. Using every ounce of grace in his stubby werewolf hands, he reaches inside her open jacket and removes the silver blade. He makes sure to handle it softly and only by the rubber handle- he has been cut by silver before and the searing agony is still fresh in his memory.

That is one hell of a knife, he remarks to himself while observing the decorative etchings on the metal. He carefully places it inside the glove compartment along with some documents and emergency blood bags- not a surprise. She’s half-vampire after all. She would find the knife at a later date when he was already far away and she’d forgotten everything about Grey Pines.

He had it all planned out. He knew Vega’s friend was already gone- most likely dead if the Lorcan’s got to her. He also knew Vega was not one to give up and would continue to search to the end of the world. Now, with his brother so disgustingly in love with her, he would drag the werewolves into a fight with the Lorcan’s to help her- a fight that would end in their mutual destruction. To prevent it all, he needed to remove the thought of finding Amara from Vega’s mind and get her to leave Grey Pine. He knew just the person for the job. It wasn’t personal, it was a necessity.

The person in mind is a psychic- a powerful one with an ability to manipulate mind and memories, along with his heart. His crazy ex- Ruby, an older woman with fiery auburn hair, sensuous lips- perfectly painted jet black at all times, the curvy hips and that low seductive voice of a temptress.

He remembers the crazy passion, the hard lovemaking, and the fights. They were bad for each other, but somehow, they always found a way to end up together.

He grinds his teeth as he remembers their last split, it was ugly. The years did not make the memory any easier. He didn’t know how she would react to seeing him again. Whatever the case, it was always going to be a risk showing up with another lady.

It was pathetic how she still had a hold on him. He forces her memory out of his mind. That’s the past you can't go back there.

His mind switches focus back to his immediate surroundings. He still had to secure his passenger and make sure she didn’t attempt anything stupid. The perfect stretch of road lies up ahead, deserted and hidden by blind turns on both sides. He pulls onto the shoulder of the road and removes a plastic zip tie, brought along for this very task. He secures the zip tie around her wrists while making sure they weren’t excessively biting into her skin.

    That’ll do.

They were all set for the rest of the drive.

HIS PASSENGER BEGINS to stir almost an hour later. The sedative was starting to wear off.

Where are we? Vega asks through parched lips. Her words are slurry and her voice is raspier.

He takes his hands off the wheel momentarily and twists open a sealed bottle of water. Drink up, we still have a long way to go.

The water quickly disappears down her throat and trickles down her chin. The groggy hands are unable to keep it steady as she drinks from it. She chokes on the last bit and looks at him again. Answer me, Claude. I agreed to leave your place. Why are you doing this?

Claude assesses the changing situation. The sedatives wearing off so quickly was unexpected. In hindsight, she was a hybrid-vampire. He should have upped the dosage and prepared accordingly. You can’t be in Grey Pine, he says while avoiding her piercing eyes. He can feel them searing the side of his head, burning with anger even in her weakened state. She’s not much of a threat for now- her movement was still uncoordinated and her speech was barely intelligible, but it could all change in a moment.

You’re making a terrible mistake Claude. I need you to take me back to Grey Pine immediately.

He ignores her. He didn’t owe her an explanation. The car picks up speed as he channels his frustration into his driving. How dare she, an outsider, disturb the peace in his town, almost bring them to war with the Lorcan’s and now make demands. She was a delusional lunatic who thought the world revolved around her. He comically mimics her voice in his head , ooh I must find my friend-
