Intere$t is the Devil is dedicated to my girls: my mother,
Willie; and my grand-girl, Aubrey. You both fill my heart.
INTRODUCTION
Full disclaimer: I did not attend any type of finance school. I do not have a degree or certificate in finance either. I am only sharing what I know and what I have learned from personal experiences when it relates to interest; because sharing is caring. It’s the right thing to do; and God put this on my heart. Amen.
Let me tell y’all something. Don’t pay those banks all that money. They are rich enough. They don’t even need it.
The bible tells us, that we are lenders, and NOT borrowers.
I really learned about interest when I was paying down my own personal debt.
What is interest?
Interest (in finance) is payment from a borrower or deposit-taking financial institution to a lender or depositor of an amount above repayment of the principal sum, at a particular rate.
Banks and lending institutions charge these fees because we need to borrow from them. Sometimes these fees are hundreds of dollars each month; especially on mortgages. Honey, do you know what you can do with that money?
Listen! Pay down debt to stop giving your money away.
Speaking of mortgages, do you know that I’ve paid my bank well over $100,000 in interest for the first 14 years of my mortgage payments? That’s when I really woke up. WAKE UP! We are making rich people richer; and with our money. Does that make sense? Nope, not today. Not ever.
You can save money yourself and wait to buy what’s necessary when you have saved enough. It’s not difficult. If I did it, you can too.
Listen, I know that emergencies happen. I know that we are living in a time when we do not know what to expect around the corner. But, does buying expensive gym shoes on interest (that’s using that credit card) make any sense? Yeah, you gone look fly (wait do people still say fly?). Fly today is the same as snatched. Wait, I asked my nephew and he said the word we use today is drip. So, yeah, you gone be drippin. But, have a bill to show for it as well. I am trying to break it down, so that you can explain this to your kids to create generational wealth. Even if you have to go back a generation and explain to your parents or older siblings, you can. It’s never too late.
Listen, nobody ever left me anything. Partially because they were too busy looking on fleek. I know, let me stop. No one in my family ever taught me about borrowing money or interest rates. I wish they had-ah. I could be rich right now.
Stop worrying about how you look. Let me tell you, your feet look good. But your phone ringing because you need to pay the gym shoe company and the bank money for a year. And guess what else? At the end of it all, where is that shoe now? Uhm, you still got to pay for something you don’t even wear anymore-makes no sense. Nope, not today.
Start signing up with credit card companies and banks who pay you to use their money. It is possible. The key is to pay the credit card before the interest kicks in. Interest can be applied as soon as 21 days and as many as 56 days before it is applied to the bill. It’s very important that you have an understanding on the interest rates and when it’s expected to be applied to your account by reviewing the terms of your loan or credit card agreement. Lending institutions give you cash back and rewards on almost everything you buy. Now this is making more sense, right? I sure hope so. After everything I just told you, I hope you are getting it. You gone be rich, if you are getting it. Watch.
So, this short
guide is to provide an eye opener for those who keep trying to pay down debt, and it just won’t go away. You keep paying, and paying every month; and it’s still there. You’ve picked up the right book people. And listen, it’s okay. Where ever you are in debt right now, you can be free. I have heard that if we have a problem, we have to start by recognizing that the issue exists. If you are over 40 years old, and worked your entire adult life, and don’t have one cent saved. You may have a problem. I mean it when I say, that it is okay. You will be fine. You just have to want to watch and control your expenditures. That’s all.
