About this ebook

This is the story of Jose Luis Flores' transformation from the world of drugs and gangs, to being a devoted follower of Christ.

In his early life, Jose was introduced to the world of heroin addiction by a friend from New York at the tender age of twelve. It's from there that his transformation began as he began his walk in the faith that eventually led him to be called to ministry, a loving marriage, and lifetime achievements. This book serves as a guide for anyone struggling with addiction or interested in ministry.

    Dedication

To my wife Lucy, my children Joey, Janet, Jose Jr, Jefte, and Bithiah, my grandchildren and great grandchildren who have filled my life with great joy. My prayer is that you will serve God for the rest of your lives, be an example, and be able to share the message of our Lord Jesus Christ.

To the congregation of Victory Life Fellowship, THANK YOU for your faithfulness and having remained in both good and difficult times. I am deeply grateful for your support and prayers.

It is my desire that we continue sharing the Word of God to impact millions with the gospel message of our Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:16-19).

    Words From the Author

My pastor, Freddie Garcia, passed on to a better life on October 16, 2009. He was not only my pastor, but he was a father to me. If I have achieved anything in this life, it has been through the grace of God and through my pastor and his wife Ninfa. They welcomed me as a son into their home when all the doors had been shut to me. They imparted the vision of knowing Christ and making Him known to a lost world.

Men like Freddie Garcia only appear once every hundred years. Even though he is no longer with us, he left a great legacy for generations to come. He left his book Outcry in the Barrio, the fourteen basic lessons to establish a new believer, and more than 300 impartation classes. But above all, he left his invaluable example of love for the lost souls. Now his legacy continues through his son Jubal Garcia who has expanded his father’s vision globally and continues to take us to a higher level.

I will be forever grateful to Pastor Freddie Garcia for his example of character, integrity, dedication, hospitality, and commitment in making disciples. But most of all, I will be eternally grateful to him for teaching me to never give up.

    Forward

On October 16, 2009, my father, Freddie García passed away in what became one of the worst days of my life. Needless to say, I, along with my family were devastated and heartbroken. Two weeks later, I was booked to preach at a conference in Corpus Christi, Texas that had been scheduled one year prior. On the day I was supposed to preach, I can remember lying in bed, in a half daze, still trying to process the loss of my father, yet knowing that God’s presence had given me all the strength I would need to preach that evening.

As I walked into the backstage door of the venue, I can remember seeing the conference host, Pastor Jose Luis Flores walking toward me. This is a man who I had known all my life, not only a great man of God, but also one of the pioneering generals of a global movement my father had led. ¿Como estás mi Capitán? he asked with his warm smile and fatherly presence. I’m okay. I’m ready.

The week before he had called me to let me know that it wasn’t a problem if I needed time to grieve. I want to tell you something, he pulled me to the side. Your father was my Pastor, but he was also a father to me. I loved him and I love you also. Whatever you need, I am here for you. And I want you to know that my heart is with you. I will stand by your side until the Lord calls me home. He gave me a much-needed warm embrace.

I had heard those exact words from thousands of people either before my father passed away, or right after he died. However, I can literally count with my fingers the people who have kept their word. Jose Luis Flores is one of those few.

In a room full of people with all kinds of titles and positions, Jose Luis is someone who always stands out. I’ve been in the presence of United States Presidents, Kings, Prime Ministers, and some of the world’s most famous celebrities, but this man, to me, stands head and shoulders above them. His heart, character, wisdom, anointing, and genuineness are all qualities you can find in many people, however, to find it in all in one person, is absolutely rare.

Jose Luis has always been one of my hero’s and incredibly someone who I consider a friend, and mentor. We’ve shared the ups and downs of life, traveled to other countries together, watched incredible live world title boxing matches together, and even sat center court, row 13 of game 7 to see the San Antonio Spurs win the 2005 NBA Championship! I’ve shared a lot of great lifelong memories with this man, and I can testify to the genuineness of who he is as a godly man, a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a Pastor. This man is the real deal.

Where Would I Go? isn’t just his story, and if that’s all you get out of it, you’ve missed it completely. In the following pages, he will open the vault door of his heart and life. You’ll hear his story, his experiences, his brokenness, his wisdom, along with incredible testimonies, and finally, he will give you some deeply mined gold nuggets of wisdom that you can’t get anywhere else. I pray that as you read this book, you will see God’s love, grace, and power on every page. I challenge you to read it with an open heart and pay close attention to the words of one of the greatest men I have ever known!

    Jubal García
