Yes, You Can Heal Your Career Journey! - Lori A. Jazvac

    Chapter 1

Experiencing the Dark Night of the Soul

I first recall experiencing this feeling in my earlier career.

Perhaps you have experienced it too or are even experiencing it now. You know the feeling. And for this reason, you may have been called to pick up and read this book.

    Disconnectedness.

    Emptiness.

    Melancholy.

    Separation from the Divine.

    Separation from Your Higher Self.

    Separation from Everything.

Do these keywords resonate with you?

UNDERSTANDING THE DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL (DNOTS)

You are caught in a web of chaos—unsure of your own purpose or how to leverage that purpose. Your soul is caught up in such despair that you don’t even know how to pull yourself up from the trenches of that bottomless pit. All you can see is tunnel vision and all options seem limited to you. Your career may have reached its desert period of stagnation—whether temporary or long-term, and you are at the other side looking like an outsider, uncertain as to how you will remedy the problem, but more importantly, how you will redefine and position yourself for your next career move.

This is what it is like to experience the Dark Night of the Soul.

    MY EXPERIENCE OF DNOTS

This is what happened to me back in 2008 when I felt I hit rock bottom. After one consecutive downsizing after another during the recession—to be three exact—I could hear the universe’s cry holding out a signpost ahead: TAKE A DETOUR -- TURN THE OTHER WAY. I was headed in the WRONG WAY.

In fact, there were a few signposts that I had failed to pay attention to. But on the day of the last downsizing at a material handling company, I was literally stopped in my tracks by a bout of post-traumatic stress symptoms and was forced to make a change, even though I did not know what that change looked or felt like. Change was clearly on the horizon whether I was about to embrace it or not! This was the end and the beginning of something new and all-encompassing.

I could not quite put my finger on what I was even going through. I knew that success was possible, but it was not manifesting in my physical world. Why? There were so many reasons I discovered later, but it all stemmed from my subconscious beliefs and a lack of a clear focus and vision for my life.

This lack of clarity was affirmed when I attended an interview once and the hiring manager asked me after seeing that I had job-hopped around: So what is the goal for your life?

I did not know. All I knew was that I wanted a job, any job. But moreso, I needed purpose. But that purpose, I learned later was not even going to reveal itself until I healed my career journey; the past, present, and the future. Easier said than done!

Back then, I was experiencing being in a painful and lonely place. The one good thing was that it led me to my awakening, to my epiphany. It led me to uncovering my passion and purpose, and my ‘why,’ or reason for being.
