About this ebook
Detective Declan Gallagher gets chills when he goes to talk to Callum about the freaky accident. It isn’t the accident that causes the chills but Callum, who reminds Declan a lot of a certain man called Killian O’Briain who he knows from a different time. About four centuries ago.
Who is Killian and what does he have to do with Callum? And how is silver ink at the root of their problems?

Silver Ink
By Iyana Jenna
South Ireland, 1600
Come on, lad. I haven’t got all day. Fetch me the inkpot from the glass shelf over there. Here is the key.
Killian O’Briain might only be an altar boy but he knew the ink in that bottle was not mere ink. It was silver and used by Father Conley only for official letters. Working inside the monastery taught Killian two more things about the ink. Two things that made it special: no one could deny or change what had been written with the ink, and the inkpot where it was stored made it last for an infinite time. No one save those inside the monastery like him knew about those secrets. Yet Killian wasn’t one to spread a word of any of the secrets. He wouldn’t want to have folks in his village think he was screwed in the head, and keep him locked in a cellar somewhere.
O’Briain!
Father Conley’s voice made him jump out of his skin and he almost dropped the bottle.
Be careful, lad.
The old man must have seen his clumsiness. And be hasty, will you?
Yes, Father Conley.
With shaky hands, Killian put the bottle on Father Conley’s table when his eyes wandered to the scroll spread out before the priest, and they nearly popped out. Killian wanted to make sure but Father Conley had dismissed him.
You may go now. Stop at the kitchen and prepare my tea. Remember not to sweeten my scones too much but leave a healthy glob of cream with them. Is that clear?
Yes, Father,
said Killian, subdued. That was how Father Conley always had his scones with tea. He must think Killian was too much of an imbecile to remember all that. But right now, he couldn’t care less. He left the study and closed the door behind him with shaky hands. It was the name he saw written on the paper and Father Conley must have rewritten it with the blasted silver ink. The name that was none other than his brother’s.
Aodhan O’Briain
By midnight during the full moon that would happen two days for now, his eldest brother Aodhan would be slayed. He’d be the sacrifice for whatever needs the King had right now. Killian’s chest tightened. He didn’t know what to do. Even if he told Aodhan and his family about it, there was nothing they could do. Once the name was inked with that silver magic, no matter where Aodhan went, even outside the country, let alone the village, his fate could not be altered. Unless of course…Father Conley hadn’t done it.
Killian had been staggering along the monastery hall when he knew what he should have done when he was with Father Conley in the study. He looked around. No one else was in the hall and he couldn’t tell if anyone was inside the chambers alongside it. He should have made sure but Killian didn’t have time right now. He turned to the opposite direction of the kitchen he was supposed to go, back toward the study. He went past it when he came to its door, though, and walked straight to a tall dark wardrobe.
Killian opened its door and stared at the darkness that welcomed him for a second. Not many people knew this was not an ordinary wardrobe. He stepped into the empty cavern before pressing the wood panel at the back. Others might think it connected to the wall behind the wardrobe but a little more pressure at the right spot and the panel began to slide sideways. Killian blinked but without any light coming in—he’d closed the door already—the place was pitch-dark. He needed several seconds before he was finally used to the dark.
All right,
