But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength: they shall mount up with wings as eagles: they shall run, and not be weary: and they shall walk and not faint,
Isaiah 40:3
Preface
When I heard of Elder Baggett’s death, to compile my notes into a book was like fire shut up in my bones. The Lord gave me the title and directed my thoughts as to how the book should be composed.
It is my prayer that Memories: Expressions from the Word; A Tribute to Dad will, first, save souls because the words will burn like fire in your heart causing you to seek salvation and second, revive the saints. May his teachings live forever and lead many generations to the Body of Christ.
He was the man of the hour. A man chosen by God to teach His people what thus says the Lord. He that has an ear let him hear what the spirit says unto the churches.
I have compiled bits and pieces of sermons/quotes and Bible class notes that I pray will inspire you.
Acknowledgments
I want to thank each of my children for their inspiration and support. I give a special thanks to Mother Elaine Baggett and the Baggett family for allowing me to present this tribute. I want to give a very special thanks to those whose words are part of this tribute and those who at this point in time are reading this legacy.
I want to thank Sister Gaynel Williams, currently Young, who greeted me on my first visit to Morgan Park and made me feel loved.
To Elder Michael Hudson who prayed night and day in my home, thank you. You are the thorn in my side,
I would say to you: Good,
you always replied. Michael, your prayers helped me in my times of trouble. You were the ointment the Lord placed on the shelf for me to use. I enjoyed your testimony of how God saved you from drugs and the streets, and I loved seeing you shout and run around the church. Great forgiveness brings great joy.
Also, I thank God for the late Elder Andrew Davis who was my mentor and Sunday school teacher and who always spoke uplifting words when I was down. Everyone wanted to be in his Sunday school class. He will be remembered as a man of God and I miss him dearly.
I want to thank David and Paulette Foster, who spent precious hours editing my material.
MEMORIES: TRIBUTES TO DAD
Memories and Love Are Gifts of God That Death Cannot Destroy.
Tribute from a Loving Wife
First Lady Elaine Baggett, Red
: The promises of the Lord are of no avail to me except as I Apply, and appropriate them by faith. In my daily walk, I shall be victorious only to the degree that I trust in Him. He can help me only as I ask. He shall meet me at every point where I put action alone side my prayers. Only as I walk shall the waters of grief be parted before me.
As overburdened as the world is with trouble and sickness, God needs those who have proven His sufficiency in their everyday personal experiences to lead the suffering to the fountain of life. God needs those who have found Him as a burden bearer to help bring deliverance to the weary and the lost. I thank God that I am a vessel that He can yet use.
My husband, Suffragan Bishop Robert A. Baggett Sr., was a man who never complained but recognized in each encounter the opportunity to speak a word that may lead to someone’s liberation. He knew that no case was too hard for God. He was rarely taken by surprise when God used him to change a pattern. My husband was a man of valor and great honor, yet a man of enormous humility; and he loved the Lord tremendously. He was a man who worked hard for Jesus and had a wonderful, exciting time rendering praises unto God. He worshipped God in spirit and in truth, and he allowed the Lord to use him mightily in the lives of many people because he gave himself unreservedly to God. I will always love my husband, Suffragan Bishop Robert A. Baggett Sr., and I thank God for a beautiful marriage of fifty-nine years.
Suffragan Bishop Robert A. Baggett And Sister Elaine Baggett
Tribute From the author
My mother, who lived in Detroit, Michigan, died four years after I became a Christian. Upon her death, Mother Elaine Baggett (the former First Lady of the Morgan Park Assembly Church) took on the responsibility of being my mother, while Elder Robert A. Baggett Sr. became the father I never had. Their natural children, Eileen and Robert Jr., didn’t mind as they embraced me as another member of the family, their new sister. Under their leadership of love, I grew and developed in the Lord.
As I reflect on my relationship with Elder Baggett, he always spoke to me as a loving father to his daughter. Sometimes he would say daughter, other times he would say, How is my pretty Rose today?
His home was always available to me and he never denied me money in a crunch. He had a loving heart, which enabled him to be most giving. He was also unique due to the fact that he had a photographic mind. It was amazing to me how he would never forget a face.
One of my fondest memories is the way he stood on one hip, due to an arthritic condition that severely afflicted him in his later years. Yet, because he so graciously took his condition in stride, I admired him all the more. And the way he stood became a part of the loving man that he was. He was truly a man of God who always cared for God’s people. Therefore, when he knew that his season of ministry was coming to an end, he sought God concerning his successor. Elder Baggett believed that God wanted the next Shepherd of our flock to be a man of God from Texas, in the person of Bishop William A. Ellis. As with any changing of the guard, some opposition arose. Nevertheless, as with any courageous leader, my dad stood in the power of our almighty God and Bishop William A. Ellis became our pastor. I believe that Bishop Ellis is our pastor because the LORD told Elder Baggett that Bishop Ellis was to be the next pastor of our congregation, and he refused to bow to the opinion and pressure that arose. Everyone that knew him will miss him and our love will always be with Mother Baggett and the family. Dad, my song to you is the "Battle Hymn of the Republic.
With love,
Rose Love
