#1 I was to write the story of my soul. I feared the task might unsettle me, but since then, God has made me understand that by simple obedience, I will please Him best. I began to sing what must be my eternal song: the Mercies of the Lord.

#2 The Little Flower, who was given the task of writing about her life, knew that she had nothing in herself worthy of attracting God’s Mercy. She was just a little flower, but God allowed her to grow in holy soil enriched with the odour of purity.

#3 I had many loving memories of my parents, and I loved them very much. I was very demonstrative, and I showed my love in a thousand little ways.

#4 I loved my parents very much, and they loved me back. I was not spoilt in any way, but I was always allowed to do what I wanted.

I was to write the story of my soul. I feared the task might unsettle me, but since then, God has made me understand that by simple obedience, I will please Him best. I began to sing what must be my eternal song: the Mercies of the Lord.

The Little Flower, who was given the task of writing about her life, knew that she had nothing in herself worthy of attracting God’s Mercy. She was just a little flower, but God allowed her to grow in holy soil enriched with the odour of purity.

    #3

I had many loving memories of my parents, and I loved them very much. I was very demonstrative, and I showed my love in a thousand little ways.

    #4

I loved my parents very much, and they loved me back. I was not spoilt in any way, but I was always allowed to do what I wanted.

    #5

I had many memories of my sister Céline, who was my companion of childhood. We understood each other perfectly, but I was more forward and lively than she was. I was also self-lovey, and would rather go without a halfpenny than kiss the ground.

    #6

I had a very loving and generous nature, and I was always willing to give up things I enjoyed for the sake of others. I was very good, and I always took care of my little sister.

    #7

I had a dream when I was three and four years old that I was walking alone in the garden when I saw two hideous little demons dancing on a barrel of lime, despite the heavy irons attached to their feet. They were terrified of me, and fled to the laundry.

    Insights from Chapter 2

    #1

I was the Spouse of Christ at such an early age that it was necessary for me to suffer from my childhood. I was blessed with flowers and daisies, but I had to pass through the winter of trial.

    #2

I remember the details of my mother’s illness very well. I was 15 when she died, and my father took me in his arms and said, Come and kiss your dear mother for the last time. I did not cry much, and I did not talk to anyone about all that filled my heart.

    #3

My second period of life began when I was four years old and ended when I was fourteen. It was a period of sorrow, especially after my second Mother, Pauline, entered the Carmel. I was extremely sensitive and shy, and I could not stand strangers.

    #4

I had a lot of fun playing in the garden near my father. I loved making colored mixtures with seeds and the bark of trees. I was very fond of flowers, and I made little altars in holes that I found in the middle of my garden wall.

    #5

I grew up loving God, and I
