About this ebook

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview:

#1 I found a mix tape with Renée’s curly scribble on the label. She never played this one for me. It was a sad California boy singing about a girl he likes. Renée had called this tape Rumblefish.

#2 I met Renée in Charlottesville, Virginia, when we were both twenty-three. We fell in love, and after we got married, she said that instead of stepping on a glass at the end of the ceremony, she wanted to step on a cassette case since that’s what she’d been doing ever since she met me.

#3 I was a shy, skinny, Irish Catholic geek from Boston. I’d never met anyone like Renée before. I moved to Charlottesville for grad school, and we depended on music to keep us together.

#4 When we were married, we lived in Charlottesville, Virginia. We would often drive her 1978 Chrysler LeBaron through the mountains, looking for vinyl records and finding buried treasures on scratched-up 45s for a quarter a pop. We would head to Tokyo Rose, the local sushi bar, where bands played.
