Introduction
At an early age, around my preteen years, the Lord started tugging at my heart. I was struggling to overcome the person I was and the person I didn’t want to be. It was also during these years that my family, like all families, started going through some really tough times. Those times would end up being some of the best times—I will forever be thankful for them. God used those times to start building the foundation for our relationship. We truly became Father and daughter. I turned to Him and, in return, He was there for me. He gave me a deeper understanding of the things that were taking place in and around me. This understanding helped increase my love, faith and hope in Him. I had my family and church family to help me through, but the pain and hurt were too deep and the battle was too strong. I had to turn to my Heavenly Father for help.
When I was 12, my mom asked me to read Psalms 27 every night before bed. I believe this was all God’s doing because this Psalm is where my spiritual journey with Him really began. One verse always stuck out to me, When my father and mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.
(Psalms 27:10, KJV). As a young person, I began to understand that no matter what I go through and whether or not my parents are there to help me, God will take me up! He will be there to deliver me from anything; I can always count on Him. From then on, through His Word and through experiences, He has shown me all the ways He truly is my Heavenly Father. My heart’s desire is that everyone would experience the amazing and loving, parental qualities of our Lord Jesus Christ. I want to share what He has shown me and taught me so that more people can learn to love Him, respect Him, and trust Him in their lives. I pray that this book will be a blessing to all who read it and that it will draw you closer to our Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ.

Fear & Respect
What does any parent want from their child? They want love and respect, for them as well as for others, which is why we were taught manners. Sadly, love and respect are diminishing with every new generation. Love is growing colder and colder and, as a result, respect is getting more and more rare. Genuine respect requires some level of love.
Some adults had it rough growing up. They learned respect, but they didn’t learn love. There was not a proper balance of teaching respect and obedience out of love. A child can respect or obey out of fear of punishment, yet not so much out of love. That is not our Heavenly Father’s way of parenting. If we obey Him out of fear, then what happens when we are no longer afraid? Let’s think back to when we were growing up. What happened when we weren’t afraid of our parent’s consequences anymore? We rebelled and said, I don’t care, I’m gonna do what I want to do! They can do whatever they want to me!
Eventually, fear runs out and rebellion sets in. I’m not saying that we rebelled because we did not love our parents. What I am saying is that when controlled by fear, we don’t allow the connection of respect and obedience from a place of love. Our Heavenly Father wants us to obey Him out of love, not fear.
Growing up, I told myself I didn’t want to do something because I didn’t want to disappoint my parents. Needless to say, I still disappointed them many times, but the difference is that it hurt and I felt sorry for
