    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

A little more than 5 years ago I thought, how interesting it would be for a kid from another planet to read about life here on Earth. I thought that was a fascinating idea and I decided to write a story about it. Writing this book was an amazing experience attempting to translate what I imagined into an interesting story. At times, I enlisted the help of others.

Most people live life on the path we set for them, too afraid to explore any other. But once in a while people like you come along who knock down all the obstacles we put in your way. People who realize freewill is a gift that you’ll never know how to use until you fight for it. I think that’s the chairman’s real plan. That maybe one day, we won’t write the plan, you will.

    The Adjustment Bureau

    CHAPTER 1

The way of life we have become accustomed to has changed dramatically. This change began with the introduction of Artificial Intelligence that is rapidly taking over tasks many of us are paid to do. And just as we were beginning to embrace the technological changes AI is making to our economy, a pandemic broke out. This pandemic prompted government leaders around the world to implement a non-essentials economic shutdown. The diagnosis forced hundreds of millions of people to become unemployed and students to be shut out of the classrooms. Also, the diagnosis included a recommendation that we stay at home which forced us to find ways to keep ourselves preoccupied. And when we go out in public to wear masks and distance ourselves from others. This new way of life is challenging our mental capabilities in ways we have never experienced before. However, there is some good news more deserving of our attention coming from a place far out.

In 2019 a group of astronomers learned there are people living in another solar system who look just like us. That their constitution embodies a sincere appreciation for life, thereby fostering a culture full of love and creativity. This is a remarkable discovery because for centuries we have asked the question: Are we alone in the universe? These astronomers shared this amazing news with some acclaimed evolutionary biologists. After the presentation and much discussion an informal consensus was reached. The biologists stated that if we wanted to attain the same level of intellectual development as the people on that planet, it will take at least one hundred thirty-seven thousand years (given our rate of evolution)—unless, of course, we learn how to make good and appropriate use of language.

Interesting, right? But more importantly, how did the astronomers find out that there are people living on another planet?

It was in the morning on October 12, 2019 that a young man named Quentin Augustine walked into the observatory research site in Mauna Kea, Hawaii and introduced himself to the astronomers working there. He told them he came from the planet called Gliese where he lived with his mother, his father and his younger sister, Carmen. He also showed them a sky chart that revealed the location of Gliese, a photograph of the planet from outer space, and a video of some of the urban areas there. After the astronomers examined the materials he provided as evidence, Quentin proceeded to give them an account of what led up to his coming to Earth.

He said, at a young age he was very inquisitive, and asked a lot of questions. As he grew older though, he became aware that his questions were clues to guide him like those on a treasure map so, he made it a point to find the answers. That near his home was a huge library stocked with thousands of books where he spent a great deal of time. He would routinely scan the titles of books from one shelf to the next and then check out the books that captured his attention. One day when he was at the library, he came across a dark blue colored book with a gold border that had a picture of a planet on the cover and the title EARTHLINGS in bold silver letters. He picked the book up, opened it to the first page and read, "Each and every one of them has a lot of questions, but they do not look for the answers. Instead,
