I have had a passion for writing since I was a young child in school, and over the years that love has only grown. I don't like to label myself to only one genre, My only hope is that I can bring the joy to those that read my stories as all of my favorite authors have brought to me over the years. My favorite part of reading is the story line and being able to completely get lost in the realm of a different world with the characters, it allows me to decompress and if for only a few minutes in a day, the stress of the world we live in right now, disappears. I only hope that I can bring that to you too. Truly thank you from the bottom of my heart for deciding to take this journey with my book.

Saying Hello to my Neverending Love in a Perfect Life - Wildfires mane

    Chapter 1

G ur! I growled as I dug into my bicep with my fingers to dig out the twenty-two-caliber bullet that I had just been shot with.

Here let me help, Porky reached for the hemostats, and I gave him that death glare that made them all stop in their tracks.

I wouldn’t need help if Jane had better aim, I griped as I finally gripped the bullet between my fingers and jerked it out of my arm, throwing it on the table. Sorry Porky, you know I love you man. I apologized for snapping at him. Porky had been my friend for five years, ever since I had joined the civilian medical program, that was assigned to troops overseas. It was kind of doctors without borders, but we were stationed right along with the military. We received a lot of the same training they did, but mostly we got the medical training and experience we needed, especially learning to do somethings unconventionally because we didn’t have the resources.

It’s okay Taylor, I love you too. He laughed as he handed me the wound cleanse bottle. Porky was about six three, as skinny as a bean pole, bright red hair, and eyes. We all called him Porky because he made the cutest snorting noise when he laughed.

Thanks, I took the solution and cleansed the wound while I hissed the whole time like a king cobra. When it was clean, I reached over on the other side of me and grabbed the needle and suturing line. I bit the end of the suturing line as I took the needle and dug it into my skin at the top of the hole and weaved it from side to side until the wound was closed, mumbling curse words that would make a sailor blush under my breath.

I know you didn’t but are you sure you didn’t take some basic training or something, girls shouldn’t be that tough. Porky laughed as I tied the knot off and bit the line in two.

I jumped off the table and threw my bloodied tissues in the firepit next to the table before putting the needle I used in some sanitizing solution. I turned around and wrapped my arm around Porky’s shoulder as I led him back out of the tent to where everyone else was. Porky, you realize you ask me that every day?

Let me guess, he asked if you had been to training, because girls shouldn’t be that tough again, am I right? I smiled as Jane joined us.

Jane was my best friend, mentor, big sister figure, and guardian angel. She stood at five four, built like a body builder and always sported that blond hair in a short spiky do. Jane had rescued me almost a decade ago and hadn’t left my side since.

He wouldn’t have to ask if your aim was better? I teased as we entered the circle where all the soldiers were.

No pain, no gain Taylor. Another one of the soldiers grunted.

And yes, they called me by my last name, which was fine with me, Taylor made a good name, male, female, first or last. I really doubted anyone, but Jayne even knew my first name. I playfully punched his shoulder, Your just jealous Fields.

He looked up from his seat with those brown eyes and that bald head shining in the sun, You’re damn skippy. That was enough to make us all laugh.

Ready to try this, with an apple? Jayne asked from behind me, and I turned to see her with a cross bow in one hand and an apple in the other and a grin from ear to ear.

I pointed to my arm where the blood was oozing just a bit and quirked my brows, At least let this stop bleeding. I shot her a mischievous grin and winked over at Porky as I watched the color drain from Jane’s face. But there’s nothing wrong with me practicing.

She loved it when I turned things back on her, and that’s why I watched her body immediately submit as she held the items out to me, and I took them. I tossed the apple in the air and caught it, Aren’t you supposed to put this on your head? I asked.

I don’t think so. She snapped back.

I will, Porky volunteered from behind me.

Are you crazy Porky, I know she’s dead on with a gun, but a bow and arrow are a little different. Jane shouted at him.

Porky walked up and wrapped his arm around me as he led me to the shooting range about fifty yards from where we were. You got this Taylor. He winked as he took the apple and walked about fifty feet out. He held the apple in his hand and winked at me. Ready?  I held the bow up and zeroed in on the apple before I nodded. Think fast Taylor! He shouted in that deep demanding voice and tossed the apple in the air. I followed it with my sights and when I was sure I had calculated my surroundings I let go, and the arrow cut through the air as it hit the apple in the core, and it all splattered on Porky’s head.

Hey, how did you do that? Jane asked, walking up behind me and taking the bow from my hand.

I just shrugged as I turned around, For years you guys have been teaching me how to shoot every kind of gun that these camps have and then some. I figured the arrow wasn’t much different, a little lighter, but not much different.

Taylor you never cease to amaze me, she praised. Her radio buzzed on her side, and she hit the earpiece in her ear. Hear you loud and clear. Yes, sir, copy. She patted my back as she turned around. Time to work guys, chopper coming in hot, two wounded from training exercises today. Everyone began moving and she turned back to me, It’s our turn to shine kiddo. I just nodded and followed her back to the medic tent.

She always used the term shine for when it was time to go be doctors. She was the lead medic on the team, she had been a doctor for as long as I had been alive, receiving her education through the military, and I was her second. I could do anything she could, she had taught me everything she knew, but I still relied on her to be by my side. Jane was my one constant.

    Chapter 2

The chopper landed just outside the tent, and we ran to it as soon as it sat down. The blades kicked up sand all around us, and there was something about it that made your adrenaline kick in. What do we get? Jane shouted as a guy stepped out with blood pouring down his face and a torn piece of shirt pressed against it.

Head injury, possible rib fractures, and slowed breathing, the guy in the chopper said as he helped the guy over to one of the gurneys the team had behind us.

Taylor! Jane shouted and I looked over at her, I got this one, you’re up.

I nodded and turned back around to the other guys standing there, What do you got? The guy motioned for my team behind me, and they ran up with the gurney as the two guys in the back of the chopper slid a guy out on a backboard to the gurney, there was so much blood it was hard to evaluate right there where all the damage was. I looked back up at the guy standing in the chopper, What happened?

They were testing new mortar rounds and one exploded in the tube, everyone got away but these two, Link, here took the blunt end of it. I nodded in understanding and turned with my team as we dashed back to the tent, I didn’t even wait for him to give me his onsite evaluation.

Scissors, I demanded as Porky handed them to me and I began to cut Link’s shirt from him. Someone get me his vitals and get a line started. I need to see where all this blood is coming from. They were all trained to do that, so I knew they had it. I pulled the cut material off him and threw it in the bin under the table, then started searching, there were so many jagged tears and holes in his abdomen which told me he took most of the shrapnel.

Stats are dropping Taylor, someone said.

I am going to find the bleeders, some of these wounds aren’t bleeding anymore and some are so his abdomen is starting to back fill with blood, we don’t have time to go get the sedation, you are going to have to hold him. Give him a shot of whatever we have right here for the pain and hold on. I leaned down to Link, unconscious on the table, You hold on there, okay. I got you buddy. I looked around at everyone and they had taken their positions. Ready or not, here we go. I said as I took a deep breath.

The first slice I had to make was on the left side of his abdomen just below his rib cage. He jerked a little under the pain of the slice, but when I dug my fingers into the hole and grabbed the shrapnel, he screamed like I was killing him. I didn’t have time to worry about the pain I was causing him, I had to get the bleeder behind the piece of metal. I jerked the metal out and threw it to the side before I grabbed the suturing needle and quickly tied off the bleeder. It was like that for another two hours as I worked from hole to hole removing metal from the man’s body and tying off any bleeders, they left behind them, while simultaneously closing the holes up.

His vitals are stable Taylor, Porky shouted.

I tied off the knot and breathed a sigh of relief, Thanks. Now let’s get these pants off and assess the damage and we need to check the rest of his body. They all nodded as they worked fast to remove his pants and began to clean the blood and dirt off so we could find if he had anymore injuries. It looks like this guy stood over the tube man. I said to no one in particular, I always found myself talking out loud, it helped me in my own way. There were a few more places on his legs and arms that I had to clean and suture and a lot of bruising but other than that he seemed fine. He had passed out from the pain so we would have to wait for him to wake up before we could ask him anything to find out how well his brain pattern was firing.

I double checked his vitals, shined my light in his eyes and found his pupils responsive. Guys, let me know when he wakes up, okay? They just nodded and I turned to walk away only to see Jane leaned against a tent pole smiling at me, you know the kind a proud momma gives you. What?

I did well, I think you are finally ready.

I did what you taught me. It wasn’t anything special, I wasn’t ready for anything, saying I was ready meant that my life was getting ready to change again.

Taylor while I can say with complete enthusiasm you are my best student to date, what you just did was all you, she took my hands in hers. These tiny hands are worth millions; I have never seen someone so steady. She turned loose of my hands and tapped my temple, And this up here is brilliant, not only are you smart, but you also think fast, you don’t second guess yourself, you are full of so much natural instincts it’s scary. I just rolled my eyes, who knew Jane could be so gushy. How long have you been with me?

Let’s say nine years, give or take.

And in nine years have I lied to you, or given you a reason to second guess me? I shook my head, Then believe me you are ready.

But saying that we both know what that means.

I know. She patted my shoulder, Why don’t you go get cleaned up and get some rest? You have put in a hard day’s work, and clean that arm up while you’re at it.

I looked at my arm where I had been shot a few hours earlier and laughed seeing there was some blood trickling from it. I honestly forgot about it, I guess my adrenalin was pumping. Let me go check the stitch and then I will go get cleaned up.

    Chapter 3

Sitting there on the cool metal table watching everyone clean up under the tent while Link laid there still asleep, I couldn’t believe how far life had brought me. If someone had told me when I was a little girl that I would end up being a doctor that worked on the fly under stressful circumstances with our troops, or that I would travel all over the world before I ever turned thirty, I would have laughed at them.

I had always known I wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps and go into the medical field, and I worked hard to do that. It’s just I never imagined my life like that. I found my fingers looped around the silver chain of my necklace as I slid the charm back and forth and I smiled. Memories of a boy I once knew also wanting to be a doctor played through my mind, and I couldn’t help but wonder if he made it.

Taylor, Jane shouted from across the tent. I looked up at her, We talked about that. She pointed to my hand, and I quickly dropped it. If you want to keep it, stop doing that. Now get cleaned up. She demanded. I did my mock salute she hated so much, and she just turned away shaking her head.

I took the patch off my arm and sure enough I had ripped a stitch. Great, I grunted as I grabbed the suturing kit and redid my stitches as quick as I could without shouting curse words.

Checking it good and deciding to leave it unwrapped until after I bathed, I jumped off the table again and quickly cleaned my kit before putting it back where it belonged. I wiped my hands on the towelette and looked across my arms at all the scars as I laughed at myself. Once upon a time I ran from pain, I didn’t want to ever feel it, but now they say I am the crazy one that runs straight to it, head on. The first thing I learned to do was take care of myself when the pain came, I didn’t ever want to rely on anyone ever again, so that’s what I did. Every training exercise that the boys or Jane put me through, and I ended up shot, or cut from a knife, and even a couple of times I ended up with some broken bones, I learned quick, I could either lie down and take it, or I could take all that pain and turn it into something else, something that would keep me moving. So that’s what I did over the course of almost nine years that I had been with Jane, and she didn’t take it easy on me either.

I heard a cough from behind me and I looked to see Link trying to move, but no one was around. I navigated through the tables and came to stand over top of him. Easy Link. I’m Doctor Taylor.

Did anyone ever tell you your eyes are beautiful? He choked out while he looked up at me with his one good eye.

They have, thank you. I grabbed the blood pressure cup and stethoscope to check his vitals quick. Link can you tell me where you are, who the president is, and what year it is? He rambled off the answers correctly and I smiled as I laid the cuff and stethoscope back to the side. You would be correct about that, and your vitals look good. I held my finger up, Follow my finger please. I waved it from side to side and he followed it, and then I went up and down and he followed it that way too. I grabbed my pen light out of my shirt pocket and clicked it on as I reached for his eye lids. I am going to shine this in your eye okay, and then I am going to check the other eye that’s swollen. He nodded as I checked both of his eyes.

I clicked the pen light back off and stuck it back in my shirt, Everything looks good here in the field Link, you are one lucky guy. I grabbed his chart off the table beside him and jotted down everything I had just done. The chopper will be here in a couple of hours to get you, and they will transport you back to the local hospital where they can do some scans. They will probably keep you a couple of weeks and then they will ship you back to the states where you can get the rehab you need. I smiled at him,
