About this ebook

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Book Preview:

#1 In Australia, the capital city, Sydney, was experiencing such bad air quality that just breathing the city's air for a day was the equivalent of smoking two packs of cigarettes. The Ryder Cup was set to be played in ten months in Wisconsin, but many American players saw the Presidents Cup as a tune-up for the big show.

#2 In the fall of 1999, a few thousand miles to the northwest in a Chinese provincial capital called Wuhan, a handful of otherwise healthy people were coming down with pneumonia, and nobody knew why.

#3 The Americans had no idea what Els had planned for them. They had no idea that the International Team was taking the Presidents Cup very seriously, and thinking not just of victory in Australia, but of the future.

#4 Reed was a Ryder Cup hero in 2016, but every time his Ryder Cup and Masters performances threatened to swing the narrative in his favor, he’d backslide. The stories never stopped: he’d carp to a rules official, saying, I guess my name needs to be Jordan Spieth, after an unfavorable ruling, or huff off after a bad round and snub the media.

    #1

In Australia, the capital city, Sydney, was experiencing such bad air quality that just breathing the city's air for a day was the equivalent of smoking two packs of cigarettes. The Ryder Cup was set to be played in ten months in Wisconsin, but many American players saw the Presidents Cup as a tune-up for the big show.

    #2

In the fall of 1999, a few thousand miles to the northwest in a Chinese provincial capital called Wuhan, a handful of otherwise healthy people were coming down with pneumonia, and nobody knew why.

    #3

The Americans had no idea what Els had planned for them. They had no idea that the International Team was taking the Presidents Cup very seriously, and thinking not just of victory in Australia, but of the future.

    #4

Reed was a Ryder Cup hero in 2016, but every time his Ryder Cup and Masters performances threatened to swing the narrative in his favor, he’d backslide. The stories never stopped: he’d carp to a rules official, saying, I guess my name needs to be Jordan Spieth, after an unfavorable ruling, or huff off after a bad round and snub the media.

    #5

After the Ryder Cup, Reed went on to make the bizarre decision to call the New York Times’ Karen Crouse and disclose that he felt blindsided by Furyk’s decision not to pair him with Spieth. He then blamed the American’s failure on their inability to leave their egos at the door.

    #6

When Reed was caught cheating, he put the entire team under a microscope, and when everyone else gave standard we’ve moved on quotes, it was Cameron Smith who spoke out unapologetically.

    #7

The matches for the first four-ball session were announced on Wednesday night, and the most interesting pick of the session was made by Tiger Woods himself. He chose himself and Justin Thomas to face Marc Leishman and Joaquín Niemann.

    #8

Reed, impassive in the face of the barrage, stepped up to hit his first drive. He found the sand on each of the first three holes, and the Americans lost 1-up. It gave the Internationals a 4-1 lead.
