Kat pulled up alongside the low hedge where the GPS had guided her. Yep, this place definitely matched the place in the photo. She pulled her rental Ford Ka into the driveway to allow other traffic to pass more easily, switched the car engine off, and took a deep breath before reaching for her mobile phone. I’m here, she texted. Now what? She opened the car door and got out to have a good stretch. It had been a long drive from London Gatwick.

At the sound of footsteps approaching on the gravel she turned around.

Welcome to Cornwall! I trust the journey was smooth and uneventful?

Yes, thanks. Matthew Stone. It’s been...half a life-time—why now?

Ah Katryna, straight to the point as always. I wanted to apologise in person.
