#1 The modern romantic comedy’s origins can be traced back to the Russian Tea Room in Manhattan in 1984, when Nora Ephron and Rob Reiner met for what would be one of the most remarkable lunches in Hollywood history.
#2 Ephron’s ability to get to the heart of something and share it with the widest possible audience was a skill she had come by honestly. She had taken her mother’s advice that everything is copy, and used that to her advantage.
#3 The movie has no plot, but it is still difficult to find the perfect Harry and Sally. The movie depends on your caring about those two people.
#4 For the music for When Harry Met Sally, Billy Crystal recommended Marc Shaiman, with whom he had previously worked on Saturday Night Live. The soundtrack album for the movie was a hit, and it launched the career of a pianist named Harry Connick Jr.

The modern romantic comedy’s origins can be traced back to the Russian Tea Room in Manhattan in 1984, when Nora Ephron and Rob Reiner met for what would be one of the most remarkable lunches in Hollywood history.
#2
Ephron’s ability to get to the heart of something and share it with the widest possible audience was a skill she had come by honestly. She had taken her mother’s advice that everything is copy, and used that to her advantage.
#3
The movie has no plot, but it is still difficult to find the perfect Harry and Sally. The movie depends on your caring about those two people.
#4
For the music for When Harry Met Sally, Billy Crystal recommended Marc Shaiman, with whom he had previously worked on Saturday Night Live. The soundtrack album for the movie was a hit, and it launched the career of a pianist named Harry Connick Jr.
#5
When Harry Met Sally was like a socialite party, with Reiner as the host. It was his job to make sure that everyone had a good time.
#6
When Harry Met Sally is a romantic comedy that focuses on its two main characters. It has no subplots or side characters, and instead has words. Lots of them. The movie is almost all dialogue, and it never slows down to focus on anything other than its two main characters.
#7
The most iconic scene from When Harry Met Sally is the fake orgasm scene, in which Sally explains to Harry that women sometimes fake orgasms, and then proves it by delivering a showstopping fake orgasm on the spot.
#8
When Harry Met Sally was a hit when it arrived in theaters in 1989, and while Reiner was far enough along in his Hollywood filmmaking to have a film adaptation of Stephen King’s Misery lined up for 1990, new doors were opening for Ephron.
#9
The Rob Reiner trilogy of films about love at any age is reflected in the unacknowledged (and maybe unintentional) Rob Reiner trilogy of films about love at first sight.
#10
Ephron was originally approached to rewrite a movie called Sleepless in Seattle, written on spec by a high school English teacher and tae kwon do studio owner named Jeff Arch. It was a solid script that, like most romantic comedies, could benefit from Nora Ephron’s witty, hyper-verbal touch.
#11
The cast of Sleepless in Seattle was extremely risky, as it
